Compared to every other warrior in the 11th century these look like an absolute joke. Just look at the meaningless decor on the shield... not even sure what it's supposed to be exactly, dyed iron? jewels? either way it's a joke. Also it's highly unlikely their clothes looked this saturated with reds, such pigments were extremely rare to acquire that far up north, it should be much much duller.

Images you find of the varangian guard online are very loosely based on depictions and descriptions of historical material. The fact of the matter is that the Byzantines kinda got fucked over when it comes to historical findings, and by extension the varangian guard. Its not like western Europe where noble houses preserved and passed down their arms and armour as family heirlooms or museum pieces. Most archeological findings of the eastern roman empire are so corroded that they are unrecognisable, and what was not lost in time was melted down or repurposed by foreign armies. What the varangians wore involves a lot of guesswork and referencing very stylised byzantine art.
It's better to simply point to viking arms and armour found in northern europe.

I gave Origins a pass because I actually liked the setting and didn’t think the new features were too overwhelming of the usual AssCreed stuff but than I saw odessey being even more RPG wanna he The Witcher and I passed on it.
Now apparently it’s even MORE like a typical RPG and less like an assassins creed game. It’s just not my thing anymore.
I wish there were more games like Assasins Creed or rather more towards like the Prince of Persia games but Ubisoft seems to not care for that anymore.
