Personally I prefer Mallow, but I won't deny that I thought Geno was cool when I was a kid. Geno getting into smash would make me pretty happy considering SMRPG is my favorite childhood game.

There's nothing per se that makes him special. As stated a trillion times, sakurai mentioned back in the brawl days that he was interested in Geno, and a smrpg track was hidden in brawl's code. So for rosterfags/ zoomers, he's the one that got away, for boomers, he'd be a neat smrpg rep, because for those who did play it, the consensus is that it was really fun.
