Anyone remember the name of a ryona game that had an oppai loli avoiding drowning, lasers, and spikes? All I can remember is that you could occasionally get a school swimsuit to absorb one hit, some of the water sections were set up so you had to be nearly frame perfect to not drown, and the end had this extremely long shmup section that forced you to restart it entirely if you got hit once.

SB was written by an angsty Japanese teenager with a juvenile understanding of nihilism so yes, the writing swings back and forth between emo and edgy during the first half of the game, then becomes increasingly edgy all the way to the end.
Some anons (myself included) like it because its an actually challenging jRPG, but your complaint is valid.
