I like them all, and even though 4 is the one I replayed the most, the changes made in 5 Royal make it the best in the series.

I disagree vehemently. Royal not only adds new content, it also changes a lot of things when it comes to gameplay, script and plot sequences. If all this could be added as DLC, the same can be said about DQ XI and it’s enhanced version.

I honestly prefer stuff to be on-disc. The problem with dlc is that it's never really yours. But with on-disc content, you can play it in any ps4 you want without being locked down to an account.

It is, at least according to most people. All the changes are tangible almost from the start and mitigate the game’s flaws. It also seems to run better than the original too, fewer load times, and the ones you see are super quick. You almost never get to see the ‘Take your time’ sign.

Never played this series but thinking about playing P5R. What am I in for? Atlus-wise, I've played SMT and EO if that helps.

Original story is pretty much same with few more events. Also JP audiovoice has much more lines (don't know about english ones).
ENTIRE gameplay has many, MANY good tweeks.
3 new SL. "Kasumi", Maruki and Akechi

And, obviosly, third semester. About 10-20 hours of new content with new palace and storyline.

If you have little bit of desire to replay P5, royal is really good for that.

P5 had better dungeon music, but P3 had better overworld music which is what you'll listen to the most when playing the game.
