Children of Atom

What the fuck is Bethesda's obsession with this fucking retarded cult? Not only were they fucking stupid in Fallout 3 when they were set up around worshipping a nuclear bomb, but they're fucking retarded in Fallout 4 where they're literally able to survive lethal levels of radiation for literally no reason.

They survive because of their faith user

WE BASK IN ATOM'S GLOW

Its essentially a no-win with Bethesda. If they reuse old factions they cock it all up like the Enclave and BoS in 3 but if they make their own factions we get absolutely retarded horseshit like Talon Company, Gunners, Children of the Atom, The Institute, etc.

Its even more wild considering the Children of the Atom essentially go from 4 idiots worshiping a nuke to a massive radiation-immune faction spanning at least from D.C. to Boston. Somehow.

>D.C. to Maine
FTFY

>No reason

Unless the reason is that their faith is actually correct?
I'm pretty sure that's the joke.

>Its even more wild considering the Children of the Atom essentially go from 4 idiots worshiping a nuke to a massive radiation-immune faction spanning at least from D.C. to Boston. Somehow.
well it worked for Jesus

*AHEM*

What do they eat?

Radiation

they need an insert for Christianity without causing controversy

A little bit of loneliness, a little bit of disregard

t. heretic

even the gameplay of the COTA is annoying, because if you happen to not be wearing power armor when you get to their crater or lighthouse by the beach, they can kill you faster than a top level mob

you have to walk into mainline fallouts with the assumption that the lore is mangled beyond all recovery, and there's no concept of good or evil in the writing, just wackiness for its own sake

>Hurr what's with all the weird literal magic that's in the games? That makes no sense!

The games are full of inexplicable shit and NOT only the newest, shittiest ones.

And a handful of complaints.

All because there's weird stuff like psychics and mutations doesn't justify the fact that a localised cult built around the worship of a specific nuclear bomb in a single city somehow gained traction are able to spread across the East Coast and live and survive in an entirely radiated wasteland with access to food while also somehow shrugging off radiation with no side effects

>somehow gained traction are able to spread across the East Coast
Who said it couldn't?
It's been established that radiation works differently in Fallout, and maybe some humans have grown a resistance to it.

if some jewish dude from the middle east can develop a world-spanning religion that has shaped the course of human civilizations, i'm sure some dudes can spread their religion from D.C to Maine.

Le epic planet of the apes reference :^)

>Who said it couldn't?
Religions like Christianity took literally centuries to spread, and even then it was only the majority in some urban centres until the Roman Empire adopted it as its official religion. The Church of Atom went from a local cult nobody cared about in Megaton to having multiple outposts in the Commonwealth/Far Harbor in a post-apocalyptic setting in under 10 years, in a setting where travel is incredibly difficult and the largest nation ever has a population of 700,000 spread across all of the West Coast.

That would require someone making the trip and as far as we know the town of Megaton had one cow to share.
Trip like that in a world full of rogue lazer gun armed robots, ferocius mutant animals and the psychotic remnants of humanity would require at least the help of all nearby settlements in 3.
This is just Bethesda going "Hey guys, you like Fallout right? Remember this from Fallout? Huh HUH??"

>The Church of Atom went from a local cult nobody cared about in Megaton to having multiple outposts in the Commonwealth/Far Harbor in a post-apocalyptic setting in under 10 years
A nuclear crater and a submarine are multiple outpost?

Yes, and all the other places they can be found in the game

So not only have they grown from a small local cult in a specific city to having multiple outposts, they're actually big enough to be sending people on scouting missions to actively convert other people in other parts of the country, all in under 10 years with incredible difficulty to travel, seemingly without a means of transportation, while also somehow being immune to radiation without an explanation

>What the fuck is Bethesda's obsession with this fucking retarded cult?
People who like Fallout most of the time come from Fallout 3 and Bethesda seems keen on having people thinking about them and only them when playing Fallout.

>Bethesda
>Not being retarded
Pick one.

Worst faction Bethesda ever made, even worse than the Institute.

The Institute could have been cool if they gave it a different aesthetic and feel, and gave them an actual tangible goal and structure
What really mind fucks me is that the Gunners just exist with no explanation, they shoot everyone and they still have a steady supply of military grade weapons from somewhere

But I can't help the fact.

>Gunners just exist with no explanation
They're a different flavor of Talon Company

>Umm, excuse me? How do these people who are completely immune to radiation and friendly with feral ghouls travel across the wasteland? Especially through places full of deadly radiation and feral ghouls!

>No no, ignore the single young woman trader and her brahmin that just walked across the whole place, that doesn't count
