Depends how much you've looked into it.
There's options depending on what you want and what you have. If you have money and space, the Valve/HTC headsets offer better coverage.
If you have a limited computer specs, then you'll want the Oculus headsets, whichever one was the standalone with the option to connect to a computer with a link cable, I keep forgetting the model names and which is which.
If you really want to and you feel you can manage it, there's the WMR headsets, but you'll be on your own for them. There are some 'better' headsets around, but you'll get better support with the Oculus or the HTC/Valve headsets as they're the front of the VR market.

I only use mine for Il-2 Sturmovik. The resolution just isn't there yet for the mid range headsets for this purpose. Zoom vision is needed to make enemy planes not look like 2 pixels.

when will these be able to just replace monitors?
My main interest with them is head tracking for flight sims and anything else that that would work well with, and the general 3d.
I dont really care about 'vr games', though some look like they might be fun for a short time.

When the PPD gets up to 40 instead of the embarrassing level it's currently at (10 for shit headsets, 17 for "premium" valve trash), the headset is wireless with a decent range, and we've got better than lighthouse tracking, maybe I'll buy in again.

Not for years. The PPD is far too low, and super high PPI screens literally have no other use cases. Hell, computers can't even run the 6k screens you'd need yet.

Nah, honestly. I had a good amount of fun with my VR headset and I don't regret buying it but I can't really bring myself to play VR games anymore.

remade my house in VR partially today. Completely changed the game for me, putting your hand out to reach to a "virtual" object and it being solid is such a fucking huge gamechanger. Walking up stairs was terrifying but was the closest I've ever felt to being "inside" a game, getting over that fear of "oh I'm wearing a headset" and just walking up virtual steps up to a new floor, and it feeling real, nothing will come close to that ever again and I hate it.
