I kind of want a Zelda game with a branching story path. Like the ability to play as Zelda and Link and Link has the normal arsenal, while Zelda is a magic user and uses something like the Eternal Darkness magic system with tomes and whatnot. Same overworld, but different side quests and dungeons.

In an earlier time (or a different timeline) without all these identity politics, it would have been interesting for sure. It's not just my own personal preference, i'm literally describing the game as it is and it's very popular as it is. Just because you're not literally going across regions to save a princess doesn't mean the message doesn't translate to anything else. I still haven't heard one single reason, not even a bad reason just any reason at all, why there should be this change.

It would have absolutely zero impact on the gameplay, so it would be pointless. The only reason for doing it is to make a sociopolitical statement. So making Link female is inherently political and it should never be done.
