thats great cannot wait to see ponys faces, but why would i buy an xbox? all their shit is on pc which is also free, i guess you would buy an xbox if you didn't have money for a pc, you're a kid, can't get into superior pc gaming for some reason.
To comparison
On Xbox it would be
>$10 a month for Game Pass
>or $15 a month for Game Pass for both Xbox and PC along with xCloud (and currently it also includes online access)
On PlayStation
>$10 a month for online access and like 3 "free" games a month, such as Knack
>additionally another $10 a month for PS Now, if you want xCloud like service
don't forget sony eliminated games and jacked up the price like 2 years ago
All these people thinking Gold disappearing means online will be free.
The reality is GamePass Ultimate will become Xbox's only subscription and you'll be railroaded onto it whether you like it or not.
here's a little more fuel for the fire
twitter.com
that is brad sams, a microsoft insider, making a vague tweet after a recent earnings call. he knows what is happening "July 23rd preview" and then posts a spicy meme. another microsoft insider, mary jo foley, responds with a curious elmo gif, and then brad responds again with a baby throwing money out the window.
these two aren't gaming insiders, just microsoft in general, but they know about what xbox is doing. this all lines up with making gold free. the twitter exchange all sounds a bit ridiculous typed out, but again, these aren't gaming people, they are commenting on microsoft business alone. whatever xbox is doing, it will raise eyebrows, be big news, and looks like microsoft throwing money out the window at face value. gold is going to be free.
That’s literally their entire campaign moving forward, play anywhere. They still get money from the licensed games they sell.
That's good, although I don't really play online. Sony adopting Microsoft's bad practices is in part what drove me away (although it was at least 60% down to the shit exclusives and 20% the shit controller).
Ironically, since they shared the same problems I ended up trying and greatly preferring the Xbox and the Xbox One is now my only platform, after selling my PS4 and Switch.
>he thinks xbox will lock multiplayer behind gamepass ultimate
>he thinks they will charge people 3x the price
>the week before the biggest xbox event of the year
>just a few months from the new console launch
i hear a lot of people say this and it's just...dumb. also, if xbox wanted to charge more for gold, then they would just charge more for gold. removing the option for buying a yearly sub isn't something a big company would do, or could get away with, to charge more. if they wanted to charge more they'd be raising the price $5 a year so you notice it less. not charge you $60 more randomly one day as if no one would notice or care.
No it's not becoming free
And the livestream in 4 days is about games retards
is 'Xbox is about to drop a bomb on this industry.' the quote you're paid to post?
They're pushing GamePass hard and forcing everyone onto it is how they will make it succeed. They will shill the "value" of the product so hard that people will end up not caring and just pay for it as online is ultimately what they want to pay for.
Xbox Live has been the only thing the brand has been making money on for a long time so thinking they're just going to give that up is pretty retarded.
>consolefags excited they don't have to pay a yearly useless fee
The absolute state of console gaming.
I doubt Sony wants to give up that money now, but being the only platform charging that much for online isn’t a good look.
>online is free on every platform
>Xbox turn it into a paid service
>Other platforms adapt and make it paid too
>Xbox makes it free
:OOO GOOOD GUYS WHAT A BOMBSHELL
I mean, I wouldn't have expected a big company to charge me for using my own internet. Especially when it didn't use to at first, like with the PS3.
But here we are.
Nu-Xbox is no longer just a console, they're moving towards a service oriented company with things like XCloud and Gamepass.
It's worth point out that the Xbox consoles now are pretty much just locked down PCs, they're mainly reserved for people who don't want to deal with PCs.
>a company can’t announce anything else if they told everyone they were going to make it a game showcase
I know marketing and promotion is a hard thing to grasp at age 12, what with all the constant zoom zoom distractions, but you shouldn’t take life so literal.
The insider made a good arguement that axing gold would allow a wider audience for Xbox. Thus pushing more into the game pass eco system
I can also seem them keeping gold as a premium service to get deals and free monthly games while axing the paid online
people absolutely will care about having to pay a lot more for gamepass just because they want to play multiplayer. you're right that gamepass is the business priority and that's why anything that gets in the way of it is going, and that means gold. at the moment gold is a competing product to gamepass, 4 games a month, at a lower price point. making people pay for online and then asking them to pay for gamepass is also a barrier, akin to having paid online access on your tv and then having to pay for netflix on top of it.
To be fair, Xbox began with paid online, the other companies adopted it at a later date.
i mean, there's also the chance it gets announced some day before the show. but as an announcement itself, it would take 30 seconds during the show to say xbox gold is free go and check the blog for details etc.
So you're telling me I can have a console that can't play Ghost of Tsushima, Uncharted 4, Death Stranding, Persona 5, FF7 Remake, Last of Us, Nioh or Sekiro but I don't have to pay the fee I'm already not paying because I'm not a babby that plays online game? Count me in!
yes they can't. It's about services nigger and they make too much money from xbox live to cancel.
Sounds like you'll need a PS4 to play those games not a PS5
I just don't see paid online going away as it's free money at this stage as every console is now expected to pay for it.
The only way to get around it is by clever marketing such as Buy Gold get GamePass Free! *That'll be $10 a month plus tip to hide the obvious price rise.
They want people on GamePass as you're then forced to pay if you want to play games as opposed to just paying $60 or even less pre-owned and owning the game forever.
>XBOX LIVE IS GONNA BE FREE
YASSSSSS QUEEN
>BUT ITS BUNDLED WITH GAMEPASS
OMG FREE BROS!!!
At the moment gold is bundled with gamepass ultimate.
But Ultimate already outsells Xbox Live Gold (as a standalone service). By making online free, people who are currently only purchasing Gold will probably be incentivised to purchase the normal gamepass (Just for console), if not Ultimate.
Rumours have been said that xbox wants the 23rd to be 'A night of mic-drops'. By removing paid online play when every other console charges, they're going to make tons of headlines and push people on the fence about which console they want to pick up this next generation to head towards Xbox.
you seem to think it's too much money to lose for it to be reasonable. consider how much money they may be losing by putting all first party titles on gamepass day 1. anyone that is interested in halo this year can play it for one month for $10. that is an equally insane idea, really it's even crazier. but it fits the model for the future they want to build.
Just a heads up, Sony have already confirmed that you will need PS Plus to use online play.
see
stop believing this bullshit, idiot
well they just announced xcloud is now included with gamepass ultimate at no extra cost. seems to me that's another way they are preparing to drop gold. if gold goes, they need to fill the value gap in ultimate.
also consider they may want a separate xcloud subscription at the same price point of gold. the value proposition of gamepass ultimate, cost wise, would be unchanged.
