Is this actually good or what?
It won so many awards, and despite gaming journos being retarded, the GOTY game are usually worth a try.
But this seems so dull

i pirated it on release and i still felt like it was a waste of money; don't bother.
I also pirated it and dropped it really quick due to very ass gunplay. My friend told me the standard enemies don't get more interesting either.
Nice atmosphere, good gameplay. I like lore, but story felt unfinished. Solid 8\10.
Heap of garbage, not even worth pirating.
It was fine.
Pope is way cuter than the player character. She should've been playable instead.
The major setpieces in the story are cool af but the bits in-between fall flat. Needed more sidequests, and the sidequests it had needed more content.
A lot of interesting lore, not enough exploring that lore.
One of my faves from last year. Genuinely cared to read most of the files and doing the sidequests just for more of the paranatural bullshit. I feel like it's one of those games where all the parts disected aren't anything special on their own but the whole thing ends up being pretty incredible. Waiting for AWE expansion.
I basically did 99% of what the game offers in less than 25 hours, it's barely worth the full asking price but it was a very enjoyable experience.
runs like shit on consoles and if your PC isnt up to capable, enemy design is boring, story is kinda interesting but you've got to get collectibles and read the hidden documents and files and listen to audio tapes. The powers are really fun though. 6/10 get it for under $20.
If it had a male protagonist no one would give a fuck.
See: Quantum Break
While i admit i only like this because telekinesis is my favorite superpower this game really isn't half bad
(you)
I couldn't get over how fucking ugly she was in game. Dropped it.
The art looked cool though
>Is this actually good or what?
Not really, no. It's not as bad as the previous Remedy games were, but it's by no means good. The main reason why it won all those rewards is because nobody wanted to get into the nightmare that was angering Sekiro and Kojimbo fanbases.
Control was simply a safe option to dump those awards on without really pissing off anyone, because nobody had particularly strong feelings about it in the first place.
You don’t even know what quantum break is lol
I like it. Great atmosphere and setting, nice polish to everything also. Not without issues and probably a 7.5/10 for me.
I'll tell you once it comes to GOG.
The game is distinctly mediocre. The gameplay is stale as fuck. The guns are the classic smg, shotgun, rpg and the powers only get interesting towards the end when you get levitation and your power bar is long enough that you can actually use some of your other powers more than once without having to wait for a recharge. The weapon upgrade system is fucking pointless too, with the percentile bonuses being so minimal as to have no effect. The side mission stuff and general lore is pretty good, if not particularly original, but the main story is fucking awful. It goes absolutely nowhere and is interrupted by stupid fucking cutscenes every five seconds so you can watch the mannequin characters emote at each other. With the exception of the quarry and the ashtray maze the setting is wasted too. More of those kinds of environments and not the same mundane office spaces would have been good.
>it's not as bad as the previous Remedy games
>Max Payne
Ok.
Slept on it until about a week ago, played for about 4+hrs. Don't think I'm going back to it. Gameplay was nice enough, but....that story. I hate feeling lost, and feeling like I SHOULD be understanding more but not. I just didn't get it.
inB4dumbass
We'll know once it's on Steam.
Max Payne was never great gameplay-wise. But I will admit it was the peak of Remedies game design, and things have gone significantly downhill from there on. Control was the first game that actually managed to improve rather than downgrade the remedy formula - when I said it's less horrible than the previous games, I was mostly thinking of Alan's Wake and Quantum Break.
I can't believe they restricted the PC release for an entire year!
overall a 6.5/10
music, atmosphere and visuals is the best aspect about it. on the other hand the art direction is very sterile because of setting. it´s max payne with frindge combined even though the gunplay doesn´t feel as good since the weapons are kinda magical object which change their appearance and iirc there is no bullettime like in MP.
I hated going through this game not fully understanding what all was going on. I also hated the pseudo-noir/noir-light/noir-wannabe way everyone talked. I get it, world building. But still, I would end a 'cutscene' and wanted to say ".....okay, so can you just explain all that shit again, but simplify it!!??"
tryhard - the game
If you are into concrete architecture and surrealism this game is an absolute must play and you can just spend all your time staring at the levels.
This game seriously hit two incredibly small niches to the point that I think the game may have specifically been made for me.
I would have had no problem with the cryptic nature of the story if it wasn't so god damn obvious from the start it's going to be disappointing anyway. Sam Lake is actually fucking David Cage-tier writer, and barely above him in terms of gameplay design competence. The story was awful from the first few minutes, and no matter how cool moments it set up, you could fucking tell how much it's going to suck by the end.
for all intents and purposes, it's a AA game, treat it as such.
boring as hell after a while and when you get over the pre rendered destruction physics. it had a good setting and story but fucked it up by being triple a
Alan Wake 2 died for this
so apparently I recently found out that this game was hugely inspired by the book House of Leaves which is pretty great. I highly recommend you check it out if you liked the game and have the time. To me though this game reminded me mostly of Twin Peaks a lot and other stuff by Lynch.
>To me though this game reminded me mostly of Twin Peaks a lot and other stuff by Lynch.
Sam's obsession with Twin Peaks is beyond healthy, to be honest. Yet he consistently misses what made them good.
>I don't play games because the facescanned protagonist doesn't meet my standards
pretend I posted a wojak.
Played it on a base ps4, good game but it ran like absolute shit
