Uprising sold 1.3 million units. I know the game has some pretty high production values, so it couldn't have been too cheap to make, but is 1.3 million really "tanking"? Keep in mind that Kid Icarus was essentially an unknown franchise at that point, and this was in 2012, the era when it still seemed like the 3DS would bomb, and not be another money-printer like the DS.

I would think so, certainly I'd imagine Nintendo's sales projection department would be aware of that. But Uprising is one of the biggest games on the 3DS. Tons of levels, tons of voice acting, a big multiplayer mode, that all adds up.
