Honestly, never. As a kid I didn't have money to buy games on release and as an adult I can see that games now aren't fully finished until the "game of the year" edition comes out with all the bug fixes and DLC included. At that point I know what the general consensus of the game is and what to expect for the most part. If you're getting hyped, you're just falling for marketing tricks.
Breath of the Wild trailer when they showed Zelda for the first time. It was livestreamed at like 4am which I caught only because I had to take a piss at night. I was laying in bed and actually sat up from excitement
Literally this year for Desperados 3, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Doom Eternal, and Streets of Rage 4.
Not a single one of them let me down.
last of us 2
still mad
Borderlands 1 since before it was even toon shaded
That's when I learned to not be excited for something I haven't played yet
Never, I don't get hyped, I only anticipate with tempered expectations. Hasn't failed me yet.
Half-Life: Alyx. I was having a shit, awful day - got off work and was pissed at everyone and everything. Then the announcement came and I did a complete 180, opened a bottle of wine and had a fantastic rest of the night.
Game came out...and was damn near perfect.
>toon
Pikmin 3 was basically the first time I was hyped at all for an upcoming game. Until it's announcement I never even checked up on E3 or gaming news.
I was kind of hyped for Splatoon.
Silksong is the only game sequel I've ever anticipated to be better than the previous game.

Black Ops or MW2 I don't remember, but I was there at the midnight launch. Ever since I've just held a healthy amount of skepticism of a game and stopped pre ordering.
I am hyped for Silksong and Deltatune
Right now I’m hyped for Skywalker Saga.
i used to get hyped for the forza games when i was young, dont think ive really gotten hyped for a game since then
Pic related,I had such high expectations, it actually exceeded them
I get interested in a lot of games enough to follow them for some time until release. The last time a game got me actually hype was either DMC5 or Dragonball FighterZ; depends on if the nonstop DMC threads between E3 2018 & launch counts as me being hype. Either way, I enjoyed both games plenty and got my money's worth out of them (and I still play them here and there).
Good shit user. SoR4 is a sleeper GOTY contender even if it's not at all likely that any outlet will recognize it as such.
PT
like in 2010 or less
It means the same thing
Cels were what cartoons were made with back in the day
Same, the announcement came out of no where, and I already had VR stuff, so it was nothing but hype and good vibes.
comes out in 5 days but demo was good
Yeah but toons these days aren't even shaded, so "toon shading" doesn't make sense.
Probably Borderlands 3. I ended up being kinda disappointed.
Mechwarrior 5. Took about 2 months for the game to actually be patched well enough to work properly and be fun.
I guess HL:Alyx for me too. No game has gotten me to drop a K as fast as that did.
Metro Exodus. Before that Fallout 4. When it came out I had a good time with it, but its flaws became more apparent the more time went on, also thanks to the trillion video essays that popped up highlighting them.
Also I was hyped for Fallout 76, up until the teaser. Everything after that made my schlong deflate immidiately.
I still can't get over how much of a sellout Bethesda has become, I will never stop being genuinely asshurt about this. Goes to show that the moment a company hits bank (i.e. Skyrim and its billion releases) that it's all downhill from there
>inb4 bethesda always sucked
No it fucking didn't. Up until Fallout 4 you could see they actually tried, then they stopped giving a shit and went after what was more trendy
Based
BOTW 2. If it's anything less than the greatest game ever created I'll be disappointed.
Prototype 2
