The worst mentality is thinking we can come even close to making a dent on one of the highest engrossing franchises that doesn't give a shit about the quality and/or content as long it's out for its bi-annual release and sells regardless because the platform is full of drama internet manchildren and incredible sensible blind people that will buy an extra copy if they even so much hear a whisper of proper criticism (ignoring the more vapid shit that doesn't mean as much as lack of actual content that required begging a extra 30$ from fucking children to add to the initial 60$).

And at the bloody least Animal Crossing is doing free updates, but it's only a matter of time until the next title also comes ridden with similar practices.

In fairness, PM probably cost like a fraction to develop. Think about the cost/manpower to develop Animal Crossing vs. the time/cost to develop TLoU2, when AC is going to dramatically outsell TLoU over their respective lifetimes.

Nintendo is pretty much the only big company nowadays that's able to effectively sell cheap, technically unimpressive games, built on decade+ old technology, and still reliably move millions of units. In truth, even as they release more powerful hardware in the future, I can't imagine them ever bankrolling a game with the production values of a Sony 1st party release, because why?
