Sunday JRPG Thread
Someone pleeeease recommend me a pc rpg with real time combat or elements. I getting sick of turned based combat.
Trials of Mana
Tales of Berseria
Tales of the abyss, KH1&2, dark souls, star ocean, nier (not automata)
P5R, third palace
gonna get back into Xenogears after this
Don’t listen to Berseria is a meme game. It looks and plays like a ps2 game except JRPGs used to be good on the PS2.
Berseria is a stupidly slow grind to play. I played 12 hours and was STILL waiting for the game to get good. The plot sucks, music sucks, combat sucks, characters all suck. There is no real gameplay and all there is to do is to follow the slow, boring main plot.
This man is correct, Berseria is shit.
Mana's ok though.
>Berseria
Why would you recommend berseria instead of abyss or symphonia?
>Dark Souls
>RPG
I mean yeah it has armor and stats but I changed all my stats to max and you STILL die in a couple hits so armor really is negligible in it. Might as well as not even have stats desu.
Starting Shadow Hearts Covenant, after finishing SMT Nocturne. Will probably dive into DDS1&2 afterwards. Good shit.
>every fucking thread some retard tries to say dark souls isnt a RPG
>JRPGs in 2020
Do whites really?
Wild Arms 2
goddamn the Leyline Observatory and Liz&Ard felt like a fever dream, like i honestly didnt know what was the point of all that stupid humor
So because Wikipedia says it’s an RPG, that makes it an RPG?
Also, you didn’t refute my points. (Probably because you know I’m right.)
Not them but Symphonia is a fucking meme. Game's honestly trash. Play Abyss or Vesperia instead, or even go play Phantasia.
WHEN DOES THIS GAME END?
I just did the stuff with Billy and heading to Babel Tower now. Am I meant to know what's going on with the Citan talking to anonymous villain stuff and the weird space tumour with the talking alien things at this point?
Here is your last (You)
I mean the story is great is great in symphonia. i can admit the combat isnt that great but if you are going to play any tales of game the only two that have good stories are symphonia and abyss
You're about to hit the end of disc 1.
Disc 2 is mostly a visual novel recapping the other 85% of the story they didn't finish.
You admitted the game has RPG elements. Your whole argument is that it shouldn't have stats so that you'd be right.
Retard.
Symphonia's story is bad. Go play it again, user. It enthralled me when I was 11 but once you're an adult you realize it's painfully fucking stupid, overflowing with contrivances and poorly handled themes and characters. If you're gonna play Tales, play it for the gameplay.
You're almost at endgame.
Yeah, I know. Feels weird doesn't it?
>It enthralled me when I was 11 but once you're an adult you realize it's painfully fucking stupid
Isn't this all JRPGs?
If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and has genre-defining game mechanics like a duck, it's probably a duck, even if you hate ducks or you don't want it to be a duck.
it depends, although I'd say that this is true for most popular JRPGs.
Sense of disbelief anons
>Having RPG elements makes something an RPG
Terranigma
Genuinely struggling to think of any JRPGs this doesn't apply to. It's a genre I loved when I was younger but holy fuck is the writing in these games tragically poor once you've got a greater understanding of storytelling and writing in general.
i took a long break after the prison.
Loved the game before that point but got burnt out.
is it worth getting back into?
Not really. Most of them are at least simple or silly, some of them are actually fairly well written, and some are just written like trash. Symphonia would be fine if it played well, but the gameplay is kinda ass.
>some of them are actually fairly well written
Name them then.
That's how genres work, user.
It's called Suspension of Disbelief, and it isn't a foolproof defense for "Ignore that we canonically killed a shitload of people, I CAN'T kill the badguy!"
Watch it online.
The next two chapters are a slog and almost the entire game after that is cutscenes.
So I guess Madden and FIFA are RPGS too because the characters have stats?
Mario Kart is an RPG because each car has stats?
The Far Cry and Assassin Creed games are RPGs because they have stats and upgrades?
I was enjoying the game up until the point I stopped (as I said going to Babel Tower after stuff with Billy), it just feels like it slogs on when you're running round Bart's ship for the 20th time.
>its another JRPG thread where some retard doesn't understand how genres work
why do these people show up to every JRPG thread? is it for free (You)s?
Just finished World of Final Fantasy. Pretty good game. Not sure what to start next- I want something gameplay focused. Maybe Resonance of Fate or the Last Remnant? Which would you recommend? I'm up for anything as long as it has interesting combat or progression.
Resonance of Fate was probably the last JRPG I enjoyed from start to finish. The combat system is fairly unforgiving though and a lot of brainlets didn't understand it and bounced off it hard. Would recommend.
TWEWY
DQIV (extra surprising because it's a famicom title)
Ys 1
Mana 1
Moon
Baten Kaitos (iffy on this one, it's been a while)
Live-A-Live
Front Mission 3
>inb4 OHNONONO THOSE ARE KIDDY GAMES XD
Some are a bit melodramatic, but they're well executed stories.
Trying to finish FFX. I really hate that this has the Final Fantasy name. I can't wait to finish it so I can move on to Blue Dragon or Lost Odyssey.
These days Madden and Fifa kinda are RPGs, yeah. More so than Mario Tennis, and that's an RPG made by RPG devs.
Playing Breath of fire 3 right now
holy shit i forgot how much fun it was, probably one of my favorites ps1 Jrpg's
im 27 hours in, Ryu still a kid and at the part where you need to train the bookworm guy to beat some dude who looks like Zangief from street fighters
heard that depends what equipment you give him, he gives you an "upgrade" when he finally beat him
so i went and farmed some money to buy a Claymore to get a Flame sword
also i'm addicted to the fishing minigame
Sounds perfect, thanks user Just found out it's on steam too.
ffx is great but if you hate it just stop
you dont need to obsessively finish a game if youre not enjoying it
What do you dislike about X user? It's an interesting game to discuss since it's fairly divisive.
World 3s grind is so comfy.
Front Mission 3 is really the only one I'll give you there, it genuinely holds up very well due to a lot of the topics it handles and it's done well. MOON is alright too.The rest are the typical generic average anime trope shit. Live-A-Live I haven't played.
It's not that any of them are outright terrible but for the length of those games the quality of writing really isn't high enough.
Crossrays.
user games are supossed to be fun, no work
if you arent enjoying it i recommend droping it
how many hours are you into it already? what do you dislike about it? (to tell you if it gets good or stays the same)
I am enjoying it so far. glad im running it on an emulator so i can train for the stats i want. How do i get skills for my digimons champion form? Backtracking isnt too bad so far but there sure is a lot of it
Just stop playing it. You could literally die at any second my man. I honestly mean this.
>Blue Dragon
Don't waste your time.
>Lost Odyssey
Great game. Play this instead.
I don't hate it enough to stop
I guess I don't really like the character design or the entirely linear feel to it. The real thing that has killed it for me is the sphere grid. I don't really feel like I'm customizing my characters anymore than a linear level up system. For example, I wanted to give Kimari black magic because he had a large mana pool, but my sphere grid for him was going to branch into learning the base spells 2/3 of the way through the game. I guess it was nice to get Yuna the -ara spells.
