There is some finicky scaling in this game isn't there? I was struggling with Izanami OHKOing my party so I grinded out like 6 levels for everybody, now she's only hitting for half our HP with the same moves
Levels affect damage formula as far as I remember.
The game features fat shaming and homophobia.
Quite a problematic piece of work, at least the sequel has a more sensible approach to such themes.

Damage taken and received scales based on the difference in levels, it's why most people recommend going up a level per floor so you can keep up with the boss' levels.
Reminder to Adachi fags that the only reason why Adachi was "smarter" compared to Akechi is because he was dealing with team that had below 0 IQ and couldn't figure the shit before whole letter incident despite Adachi making countless of sloppy mistakes.

I like Nocturne a lot, but if I wasn't more respectful to the rest of the game that puzzle would sink its rating pretty low.

Avoid using a guide, because it turns the game into a chore. Only thing to keep in mind is to beat the December dungeon boss on the 22nd, and to finish the Aeon social link before beating that boss. Beyond that, just do whatever, even if it means making "suboptimal" choices. The only social links that give you objective benefits are your party members and Hermit, so don't freak out if you miss a few on your first run.
