I installed a DPS meter for Monster Hunter World, and here are my experiences in terms of DPS per weapon in pub lobbies.
S tier (always on the top of the scoreboard)

that's too bothersome, it's a lot more effective to use the hotkey to print average dps, total damage and % damage in chat before the hunt ends

Unlike other weapons, they are able to deal consistent damage, meaning their damage will invariably be higher overall.
It all comes down to consistency with what you're fighting. If you're good, everything can be good DPS, then everything will out-DPS the "S-tier" weapons. If you're not, then they're compensating for your inconsistency.

It's almost like other players will gravitate to parts they wish to break or let another player have a head so as to not interrupt or inconvenience them. It's almost like different parts of the monster and context come into play and the series has always been like this.

This is why they're very rarely ever reliable in multiplayer, and it's TA times are a better measure of damage and skill.

it's funny because the only person who cares about the damage done would be you in that situation. There's going to be the guy who is farming mats, the guy that doesn't have the monster cleared and queued in to get help, and the guy on his lunch break just having fun, and unless you tell them beforehand they're not going to maximize for damage.
