Sometimes I wonder if I'm too hard on Nu-PM's characters but then I see a based character like this and realize I was right after all. It's nice that they tried to shoehorn in some personality with the Origami King bosses but at the end of the day most of them still have next to no presence outside of their designated end-of-chapter location and don't really come off as intimidating since its incredibly difficult to take any of them seriously.

There's really just no comparing them, they're in a totally different league and are woven into the overarching story with much more care and nuance. The current Paper Mario devs don't seem to understand and/or care about that these days. The only boss in that game to get next to no buildup whatsoever is the Smorg invasion and even that was handled a million times better because it took advantage of the fact that it was so out of left field.
