Okay. I get the whole "can't mess with the standard character, so Goomba's can't wear hats" thing. It's stupid but I get. But why? Why in the name of fuck are most of the bosses just real world objects? This isn't even lazy character design, because that would imply there's ANY character design here, it's literally just the objects in-game and given "funny voices"
Why try when most fans will buy it and defend it online anyway
Chase Hall
the attacks are pretty creative tbqh. I think their higher-ups don't want them creating original characters unrestricted. Tanabe and/or Miyamoto seem to be the biggest culprits in this restriction.
Isaiah Taylor
Tanabe even made a point of saying the origami characters were made so that they could have original characters that didn't look like they were part of the same universe as Mario characters and then just chose... Not to use that for the bosses? They could have made all kinds of cool origami dudes instead of generic office supplies
Logan Lewis
>I get the whole "can't mess with the standard character, so Goomba's can't wear hats" thing I don't. I really, really don't.
there are origami bosses, though. Multiple of them at that.
Jeremiah Garcia
They should go for things like the bean kingdom in the M&L games and shower us with fresh puns
Asher Walker
>They're there, but there's literally no reason why they can't all be like that. What's worse is the important origami bosses aren't even directly related to the main villain
Adrian Flores
they're not all origami for the sake of variety, ironically
Jaxson Sanchez
Having out of place items and claiming their characters is not "variety". Hell, I'd be less mad if they had googly eyes literally glued onto them or were decorated like they were in a kindergarten, but they're literally just the real world items without context or cohesion.
Nolan Richardson
There are goombas with hats in this game though.
Robert Bailey
this isn't a rareware game user
Noah Butler
>What's worse is the important origami bosses aren't even directly related to the main villain It's implied that Olly turned them into origami, and the form you encounter them in is not their original form.
Ethan Parker
You see, user. Goomba is such an important Mario character that it'd water down the brand to change his design.
What's that you say? Goombas are a species and not an individual character? That's just silly.
That's an interesting debate. What more creative, the appearance of an entity or the gameplay elements it introduces. Given it's a video game, we could say the later is more important, although the most creative take would be to have an original appearance and mechanics. I haven't played the game, btw.
Jackson Thompson
Because fucking Mario is a franchise that's a stranger to inanimate objects with faces
Damn dude, you fags are still whining about this paper shit? Doesn't it get old?
Isaiah Murphy
And yet you don't turn them back because...?
Julian Bell
paper lmao
Josiah Roberts
>Doesn't it get old? Not to the Paper Mario developers, apparently.
Charles Bennett
Because you kill them and absorb their bibliofold. I don't know the mechanics and one and outs, but maybe after the ending, they go back to normal. It's not shown though.
Chase Martinez
>all it took was 1 coversation with miyamoto for the PM series to be permanently ruined
Cooper Hughes
Except you don't, you absorb their essence or whatever and they fight for you like Pokemon or something
Brandon Morgan
i would be fine with the idea if they would have been at least somewhat creative with it but instead of fighting a boss that uses tape as an attack or is partly made of it, you fight literal tape instead of fighting a boss that uses scissors, you fight literal scissors
Eli Hill
If you keep crying about it, the devs will stop. I'm sure of it. That's a very rational position to hold. It's not histrionic at all.
Ryder Collins
>And they fight for you Uh? It's Olivia who does the fighting for you, not the vellumentals.
Colton Parker
Paper, origami, arts and crafts?
Colouring pencils, scissors, tape?
I agree that not being able to create new characters is a bit wack, but at least the real-world objects make sense...sort of
Josiah Ward
Corporate mandates designed to keep up brand consistency to avoid as much confusion as possible with secondary partners on knowing what they can and cannot do The mandates were always a thing, it's just that they've gotten a lot stronger since
Mason Carter
It worked for Mario Party. And literally nothing changes if people roll over and take it.
user, I don't care. Point is there's no reason for only half the bosses to actually use the concept the box advertises
Christopher Baker
Mario mandates that we know and can be assumed to be in place >Original characters who use elements or modify from pre existing Mario races are not allowed Confirmed >Characters from past Mario RPGs are never allowed to return at all no matter if they're derived from a pre-existing race or not Confirmed >Characters outfits must be consistent with the mainline entries down to shade and Luigi's socks not allowed to be shown anymore Confirmed >Races are region specific (Piantas, Shiverians, etc cannot be in the Mushroom Kingdom) Speculative >Toads cannot be portrayed younger or older than other Toads Speculative >Spin off characters in other Mario spin offs are off limits (Warioware characters cannot be next to the mainline Mario cast or the DKC cast) Speculative Thoughts?
