I can agree but at the same time even Ubisoft, Activision, or hell, Blizzard have people that put effort and passion into their work. It might not be good, it could even be shit but it's still doesn't mean there's not some trace of effort and pasion in there even considering it as a limited one. And yet nobody mentions modern shit to have SOUL, only old ones. Look i'll ask you this, why isn't the new Prey SOUL when that space station clearly had effort and passion put into it and the whole area as well as the singular levels were great? Why isn't RDR 2 SOUL when it's probably the most technologically advanced game to date and shows imense passion and effort todwards the worldbuilding and atmosphere? Is is because both of these are new games and SOUL is a cover term for nostalgia goggles?

Soul is any game pre 2008, where the map and layout and items and textures are so limited, you can literally tell how the devs placed them, etc. it feels alive, it feels made by humans.

Games were Soulful when even though they were limited graphically it didn't stop the devs from making the game actually good. Wheareas Soulless games are literally the opposite, sacrificing good gameplay for cinematic visuals.
It's good that people are taking notice to this now though. The same shit has happened to music, that's why people chase the "vintage" sound, it's raw and beautiful. Theres just something very human about low res textures and limited production in vidya, where you can see all the seams and the work put into them. That's what "Soul" is to me.
