It's not that strange, aside from the designs (which would mostly be fine if the developer didn't remove all their pants) it's not even remotely offensive to that group. Remove them and it's just an objectively good game, so it's no surprise at all.

People tend to forget that while the vocal Christians are obnoxious idiots with little redeeming features, that's not any more an indication of the majority than game reviewers who claim to speak for the tastes of people who play games.
