I recently started playing Daggerfall for the first time. Do you guys have any hints or tricks I can possibly use?
Daggerfall
Character creation matters. Don't be afraid to game it. The tutorial dungeon is like a filter for bad builds. If you answer the questions right, you can even start with an ebony dagger.
I am playing an Argonian assassin, and I already got the ebony dagger. I managed to get out of the first dungeon because the guy who I watched for installing the Unity port ran through the dungeon real quick
also is my equipment good for level 2
This game is like crack. You play it for several hours, put it down because it's getting boring, then the next day you get an itch to play several more again. Also on one of my quests I met a tranny.
This was "her" character portrait when talking to them. I love how this game can glitch out on you.
I've had a lot of fun playing Daggerfall so far, although I am pretty much blacklisted from all of the cities and towns in Daggerfall province and even got banned from the capital of the province
There's massive penalties for failing quests but zero penalties for refusing them. Unless it's the main quest, in which case not having the stats is instant failure.
Don't start the main quest beyond the "talking to the Daggerfall empress to get told to fuck off for a bit".
Daggerfall is Battlemage heaven. You're either toting around restoration spells and recall or you're going to have a very bad time.
Rotate your saves over saves, save before and after every question.
Several enemies are immune to lower tier weapons. Dwarven is about when you'll be able to hit all of them.
If an NPC tells you the vague direction of a quest, keep badgering them and they'll mark it for you.
Most NPCs are going to absolute assholes to you until your social stats improve.
Thanks for the tips user, I honestly thought that npcs marking the quest location on the map was random chance, so thanks for saving me the hassle of running around
>take magic immunity trait
>crippling weakness to fire
>crippling weakness to ice
>crippling weakness to lightning
>swimming in bonus points
Last time I played daggerfall, I couldn't get past the first room, because I couldn't jump over the small ledge.
user, the first room is a cave with a door. The door leads to another room with another door out. Out that door is a hallway with several doors. There's no ledges in any of these areas, unless you tried climbing a wall.
Is there any way to reduce the law's hatred toward you, because I'd rather not be chased around and banished from every town in Daggerfall
I have no clue. I can't remember. All I remember is that I was stuck somewhere and needed to jump, but couldn't. Really turned me off.
What'd you do to piss them off and constantly lust for your blood with no remorse? Try to rest in town?
I went on a quest to murder some guy in Daggerfall city, and I guess I got caught or something and it just spiraled out of control from there. Now everytime I go into a town in that province the guards just instantly arrest me and banish me from the town I was in.
>max out int
>3xint spell points
>primary skill includes mysticism
>major skill includes destruction
>set leveling slider as far down as it can go
>join mages guild
>easily rack up gold
>use it all to buy all the spells and magic enchantments
There is a jump button. I think it's defaulted to like P or J, but you can rebind all the keybinds. Speaking of,
Remap all your keybindings, including using mouse to look. Daggerfall initially put me off for how fucking clunky everything was until I realized you can remap it to play like any of the 3D TES games.
I'm playing in the Unity port, and thankfully the key binding there is similar to the 3D TES games
I love the unity port because it's ridiculously easy to edit your save files or mod stuff. Pic related, I added my face to the ones you can select when making your character.
By the way fuck some of the people who work on this port.
>fuck some of the people who work on this port
Why? Is there something wrong with the devs? I'm curious
all the NPCs are calling him ugly now.
Oh, well I don't think I can help you with that besides, I'm playing as an Argonian and people just flat out refuse to talk to me sometimes
>Interkama, the main person behind it, called children being able to hand commoner quests "problematic"
>A modder came along and released an adult mod that allowed you to fuck the children (they belong to the "commoner group" and the mod used that to handle the sex stuff, it was a byproduct not intentional)
>Said modder asks him to remove children's ability to give out quests for his mod personally
>Interkama decides to just completely remove children characters abilities to hand out quests based off this one mod
>Instead of either telling people to not use that mod or adding a menu option to disable chidren being able to give quests
>Another modder tells him to fuck off with that shit why the hell are you removing gameplay because of a mod someone made that was (temporarily) removed anyway
>Now there's a chance that quests that involve children (even if they are not the quest giver) will bug out on you
>On top of the latest version completely breaking mods that were released for version 0.10.24 or before
You know, typical autistic shit involved with this kind of stuff.
Ah, so it's just typical devs not liking some modder.
The dev was being retarded. You don't change the game based off of a mod. Even worse, you don't remove gameplay because some literally who edgy fag lord not involved with them in any way tells them to do it because it doesn't jive with his mod. Even more worse, you don't do that unless you at least allow people to allow/disallow children handing out quests. Forcing people to use the game a certain way based off the personal preferences of someone not attached to the project in any manner is incredibly unprofessional.
I don't know, if that's the main problem you have with the devs that's pretty tame all things considered. The 0.10.25 thing was an inevitability anyway, it was that are continue using a now legacy version of Unity and kick the can down the road even longer, likely causing more problems for mods later on than just pulling the band-aid off quickly.
I can see your point, although I'm pretty sure the dev just freaked out at the possibility of being liable for child pornography based on your description
>Rewriting a game beautifully hand crafted and optimized in assembly entirely in C# poo-aids
I'm honestly surprised more things aren't broke.
It's not really that bad just because it's written in a higher level language. Daggerfall itself was a rushed to shit buggy mess originally. Written in lower level language or not it still ran pretty bad, at least compared to today's standards.
post backstories
God Daggerfall is fun.
Don't listen to this fag
The real shit is that character creation should be COUNTER-gamed so that you can reach max level. The better your early build the higher the cap on your late game build.
On the other hand a noob friendly early build can also be very strong but almost all of the best character builder traits are tied to level so raising the level cap gives you the best results in the end.
Unless you're running mods don't fucking use language.
Hand to hand is insanely good if you want to just power game everything.
