>Shorter than SH 1 and 2 >Smaller cast than SH 1 and 2 >Less endings than SH 1 and 2 (And only one is available on your first playthrough compared to 3-4 in other games) >Not possble to explore the town of Silent Hill unlike in SH 1 and 2 >Reused locations from SH 2 >No real plot until 40 % way through and even when it does finally begin it's pretty bland rehash of SH 1's story with no fresh ideas
Never played, but as you have, is it worth it? Even with its short comings, would you say it was worth the playthrough?
Samuel Jackson
Yeah, it has it's strong parts compared to previous game like more interesting characters, better puzzles and scares
Leo Sullivan
Does anyone know why Silent Hill 4 looks so bad compared to other games? Was it made on different engine?
Tyler Thompson
I agree with you a 100%, SH3 is uneven as fuck and its pacing is just atrocious. It's still a good game but I don't understand how anyone can think it's equal or better than SH1 and 2 even if they're a waifufag.
Samuel Garcia
I don't get this "it's shorter" meme. Beating 3 takes easily the longest out of the OG 3.
Absolutely. It may not be as god-tier as SH1-2, but it is superb. The recent increase of flak 3's been getting is a brand new phenomena.
It doesn't. The character models, texture work and lighting are still great considering PS2's specs. It's just not constantly cloaked in darkness and fog.
>The recent increase of flak 3's been getting is a brand new phenomena. no it's not, people always had problems with it but they have no reason to engage with heatherposting retards
John Hughes
calling the first image PS2 is dishonest the DP image is also dishonest its from a very compressed source even then SH4 obviously outdoes DP theres no reason to lie here
Lincoln Bell
Extreme involvement by Konami compared to 1 and 2. That's also the reason why it feels like a forced nostalgia ride.
Aaron Hughes
Oh shit, I keep forgetting to play the Silent Hill series.
Julian Parker
The whole point is to compare the huge gap between art-directing. DP looks like a fucking Half-Life 1 mod at worst, no matter that it's running on a decade newer HW.
Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always. DON'T use W10's own virtual disc app! It will not work. DON'T install under C:\Program Files\ ! This can cause problems on W7-10.
Next, apply the Enhanced Edition mod's files into the installation directory. Follow the SH2:EE homepage's instructions to the T, and you should be fine.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate, using ePSXe or PCSX-R. For 3 & 4, check the Guide.
>All the info & links you'll ever need: pastebin.com/6B3qZs4S >Protips: Play the games in release order, and don't play on Easy mode. Multiple playthroughs per game is very recommended. Lower the in-game Brightness, crank up volume. Turning OFF flashlight helps a ton with stealth!
>game exists literally as a direct sequel to sh1 >it's goal is to give more meaning to sh1 by explaining a number of things and close all potential story threads without introducing new ones (so it's a definitive conclusion) >thus the narrative is so focused that nothing feels wasted, every character, piece of text and area serves a purpose >retards come in with their garbage criticism like 'muh multiple endings', 'muh exploration' and 'n-no story until 40% way through' sh3 is underappreciated in its filtering ability. it's especially entertaining to see sh2lets' reactions to it, because it's almost always negative (probably because this time they're playing a game that requires actual thought than the simple, easy-to-understand plot of the previous game). as a direct sequel, nothing even comes close to the refined quality of sh3. it doesn't just add new and interesting information, it also elevates the already high status of sh1 by giving those events rich emotional meaning.
Gabriel Moore
>game is called silent hill >you don't get to silent hill until halfway through the game >when you do, you are like 3 hours from the end anyway
Lincoln Ward
But sh1 didn't need a direct sequel
Lincoln Thompson
Don't forget that they really didn't know how to make the atmosphere good like in SH1/SH2 so they just made it tense as fuck with tons of enemies cause it was easy.
I still liked it, but man do waifufags on this board really overrated SH3.
Tyler Edwards
I know one thing or sure it's way fucking harder on hard difficulty than the first two. Don't know why they had to make the enemies nearly invincible
Charles Hernandez
>Heather is literally a copy of Alessa, the psychic girl who was impregnated with a demon god by a cult in Silent Hill >Heather still possess this demon god, and all it takes to 're-awaken' the fetus is faith, which Claudia from the cult of Silent Hill does so when they find her in the mall >on the way home, Heather runs into Vincent, another member of the cult >she also starts remembering her past-self, the Alessa trapped in Silent Hill, and other text and events that refer to Silent Hill >but sh3 isn't Silent Hill because it doesn't take place in Silent Hill from the beginning of course an sh2let thinks sh1 was about the town of Silent Hill. it's too much of a big think for you to understand that sh1 is more about Alessa and the cult then it is specifically the town of Silent Hill. sh4 doesn't take place in Silent Hill either; does that mean it's not a Silent Hill game too? you got filtered by the game, simple as.
Jaxon Torres
I legitimately think they wasted all the dev time on designing the Hard Mode puzzles
Andrew Ward
I'm not even discussing the lore/character merits. The fact of the matter is that SH3 is a disjointed mess with no sense of pacing.
Levi Torres
There’s a couple good moments but it’s not worth finishing if you aren’t into it
Aaron Nguyen
I'm a SH1fag and I didn't like SH3 that much. How does SH3's plot require thought? It's just
>some weird people start harassing u >ur dad dies >go find out what the fuck is going on >looks like the cult from the 1st game is on their fuck shit again, and they want to birth a god from you (same as the 1st game with Alessia/Cheryl) >"no" >shotgun the failed abortion of the cult's god >the end
Ryan Torres
By the way, I know the god wasn't aborted, rather it was a failed ritual or failed birth. It looks like a failed abortion is what I meant.
Julian Morgan
>>Less endings than SH 1 and 2 (And only one is available on your first playthrough compared to 3-4 in other games) This is the only complaint that is true Sh2 had something like 7 endings. I have no idea what went wrong, oh wait, i do, the suits stepped in and told team silent SH is now a yearly franchise so they better shit that game out in less than a year and be done with it, same with sh4.
Xavier Williams
Combat difficulty is a joke in the first place. The mechanics are awful in every entry. I appreciate the fact that it isn't as limp dicked as SH2 with its all bark and no bite approach. The enemy design is a million times better too.
Charles Hernandez
>I legitimately think they wasted all the dev time on designing the Hard Mode puzzles
Those were some great puzzles though
Luis Ross
Heather a cute
Adrian Wilson
it's definitely a game that requires thought when people pass on the game with brainlet comments like 'there's no story and the cult is shit' and yet still fail to make the connection with things like Claudia's faith being the reason behind Heather's 'impregnation' with the demon god. these are the same people who are running around the chapel and fail to see the significance of the items they pickup and texts they read. yet when it comes to sh2 they're prepared to write a thesis on a fucking door that looks like a face lmao.
Benjamin Morris
I beat it very recently, and I have to agree with almost all of these points except the one about the game's length. Although that's perhaps because the game started to drag around the office buildings.
What legit shocked me is that the rabbit guys don't do anything. For such an iconic image of the series, it was kinda disappointing to find out they simply form part of the scenery and nothing else.
I liked 3 but spending half of the game in a mall/subways/some buildings was kinda silly. I guess they wanted to experiment with new locations.
Luis Bell
>game about a religious cult trying a second time after having initially failed to birth a demon god that will literally create hell on earth >just ignore the lore and iconography bro lmao filtered, simple as.
Joseph Rodriguez
and it's also just literal copy pasted assets from 2 before I actually played it, I read somewhere that the game was a fan service fest. I was seriously expecting it to pull an MGS4 and recreate the town from the first game
I guess that's 100% on me but still, it's sort of weird that the weakest part of the game is Silent Hill itself
people are telling you that the game is not well put together and you keep deflecting with MUH CLAUDIA'S FAITH like complete mouthbreather. no one is criticizing the story beats themselves, just the fact that they simply don't flow at all.
Robert Morales
>implying the hospital wasn't kino af
Nathaniel Powell
What's the significance of Heather's fetus being awoken by Claudia's faith? What themes or motifs does it show? The symbolism?
Colton Walker
Because it had a bit of a troubled development. It was originally meant to be its own game, not a sequel to SH 1, but supposedly due to demand from fans, it was made into a sequel to 1 and the original story was scrapped. The game was also planned to be an arcade shooter before team silent realised how stupid that would be.
I always noticed that it's SH3fags shitting on SH2 on Zig Forums, even dating back to the times when this board hated Tom Hulett because we thought he was a "SH2fag" that hated the cult or something and ruined all the new titles.
