Every attack by half the enemy types in the entire game do the exact same thing and just mere survival in every combat encounter is a dice roll completely out of your control, forcing you to abuse saves constantly. After genichirou Isshin was pretty easy. Beat him my 3rd try with a ton of room to spare. The first 2 times I reset the fight because I died before making it to the later phases of the fight.

Eye shots could in theory kill him just like eye shots could in theory beat The Master, but you will never survive long enough to kill either because it's just too improbable for none of the enemy's attack rolls to ever produce an armor-ignoring critical that does 999 hp damage. Therefore the only strategy is true RPG savescumming, aka saving before a roll. In this case a few dozen rolls, and you can never roll 1.

I got to third phase on my first attempt and fucked up because I forgot how to lightning reverse. Isshin rewards being very aggressive and parrying and punishes people still playing like it's dark souls, all the people I've seen struggle hang back and play passively, fucking hesitating.

Considering that it's not that hard, Owl 2 is harder because e throws more curve balls.
