you know.. if any game is to actually make a good open world then its probably halo, the ring can be broken up like in the picture above and they also have a fucking massive budget, its also been like 5 years in the making.

I doubt it. The event is only an hour long and they are showcasing over 30 smaller games, plus the larger games they put on that desktop folder image which was about a dozen. I doubt that Infinite gets more than 5 minutes.

This ring looks quite a bit smaller than previous ones. Compare how close the horizon is here to Halo 1. In H1 it was likely 100+ miles wide, and you could only see the ring in the skybox due to the sheer size. In OP's image it looks like the fracture is only a 5 minute trip away in a warthog.

I think it’s less open-world, and more like the game having an open hub section between missions like in ODST except bigger and on a Halo ring.

If they make the levels feel like Halo 1 levels than I don’t see the problem.

It's amazing that Witcher 3, a game that has only sold 28 million copies over 5 years (RDR2 has sold 32 in 2 years), has had more of an impact on AAA gaming than pretty much any other game in a decade. This whole open world everywhere trend is quite literally their fault. Prior to that it was just Rockstar and no one wanted to make those games.

We'd get varied biomes too, like assault on the control room-style snow, swamps, giant explorable structures like the library. I'd love to be able to play a reimagining of Halo 1 in that open world style. You land on the ring and it looks pristine like OP's pic. Fights with the covenant and raining debris from the pillar crash mess up the surface, and when you accidentally free the Flood you see them gradually spread and take over the entire surface of the ring.

Halo CE was initially developed to be open world with dinosaurs and shit running around, so it's kind of a return to Bungis original concept (if true). I dont hate the idea of it if they pull it off.

Halo 1 level 2 wasn't exactly open. You just drive a warthog from covenant dropship to covenant dropship. It didn't focus on corridor level design, but it was still scripted and linear.

Infinite will be getting some time on the pre and post show, apparently. I'm thinking the talky-talky parts of presenting the game will be outside of the normal presentation. Granted, the upper limit for the gameplay demo is 10 minutes- we'll see some traversal, the return of an old favorite vehicle (either rocket hog or spectre), and a plot stinger featuring one of the main antagonists (hopefully Aatrox, he's the coolest nuHalo antagonist by far). I have a feeling that smaller projects like AOE3:DE will be moved to the surrounding pre- and post- shows as well, or relegated to tiny stingers within the show after more important related projects (ie HERE'S AOE4 ps 3:DE goes into open beta today see if you like it BUT ALSO AOE4 GUYS I HOPE YOU'RE WEARING A MASK WHILE APPLAUDING).
