Except there are no locations outside of the school.
And less to do within the school.
And actually, you don't do any school-related things at all, you're only in a school because Japan. You just run around and talk to NPCs until it's time to go to the dungeon.
And the dungeons are shorter and have less content.
And your party is one character.
And you cannot "build" said character in any way other than allocating stat points each level, which usually has an objectively correct way to do and doesn't really affect how you play.
And the combat is literally a game of rock-paper-scissors.
And the bosses are also all rock-paper-scissors, with the addition of that classic JRPG mechanic: "press Guard when the boss politely signals they're about to do their super move."
And the story is some amnesiac "what am i fighting fooooor" shit.
And you have to pick one of two waifus, who then fucks your servant instead of you.
But hey, it has "Fate/" in its name and a Saberface on the cover!

Fate/Extra is, without hyperbole, the single lowest point in the entire Fate clusterfuck. Extella might be worse, I haven't played it.
Other entries have had shitty stories but at least didn't lock them behind shitty gameplay.
Extra tried to be a mediocre game (Persona) and failed miserably even at doing that. I doubt the remake will fix enough of its problems to make it tolerable.
