This is the only good JRPG, prove me wrong
Dragon Quest 1, FF6, and Chrono Trigger
Bye, shit thread

yikes
Weeaboo trash, I'm sorry, maybe next time
It's above average at best. Generic characters played up by quirky localisation, boring """"""worldbuilding"""""" that is pretty much just pointless padding, god awful pacing, and aping concepts of others games/series without knowing what made them good.
It's not even the best Falcom RPG when Ys exists.
Yeah Trails is weeb trash, what's your point?
Rean...
unironically undertale...
ik that contrarian anons like u to believe its a shit game but its good.
Combat in most rpgs is shit. A lot of the time its just grinding. Occasionally you have to use a different SPELL for a boss and that's it. The best parts of rpgs are usually the towns and the stories.
Undertale has fun shmup combat, much more engaging than mash a shit.
While having an engaging story, charming characters, and rly good music

Trails is incredible and I love the fact that it sends neo-Zig Forums (Reddit) into a seething rage, but Wild Arms, Grandia and Xeno are much better series.
That's cool, user. Hey, btw, how is the transitioning? Are you dilating frequentlu?
>and aping concepts of others games/series without knowing what made them good.
You do know those "other games/series" ape off of Falcom in the first place, right?
gay af.
just because undertale is mainstream and all the tumblr fags like it, doesnt mean u have to hate it unconditionally.
undertale is not a JRPG. it's a dating sim with shmup segments
>Combat in most rpgs is shit. A lot of the time its just grinding.
I was with you there until you said this. Imagine being bad at RPGs.
yes while retaining the best aspects of jrpgs, and not being shit.
its not just a dating sim. It barely has those segments. It has fun shmup segments, and rly good towns.
face it the main story of ur average jrpg is usually bad. The most memarable parts of jrpgs are the npcs, towns, and characters.
It's discount Xenogears meets Suikoden with a generic shounen/shoujo characters, which wouldn't be a problem if it didn't misunderstand the substance and points of those games so hard. Especially with Xenogears.
In that case, every JRPG are exceedingly bad.
>Trails
>not weebshit as well
Trails (At least the Sky trilogy) and Xenogears have nothing in common beyond Trails being full of Xenogears references (which is ironically full of references to older Legend of Heroes titles)
Trails is only akin to Suikoden because Falcom saw what Suikoden was doing (tying their games into a greater world and greater narrative) and decided to do the same. Falcom was actually already doing this before Suikoden, with Ys, and on a smaller scale the first two Legend of Heroes arcs (Dragon Slayer 1&2, and the Gagharv trilogy). Suikoden just inspired Falcom to turn The Legend of Heroes into a grand mega-story.
I've seen this barebones argument before, which makes me wonder if you're just parroting other people.
I wish Trails was generic, I really do, because if Trails was generic then it'd mean incredible things for the JRPG industry.
Trails doesn't try to be Xenogears at all outside of inside jokes. People only make those comparisons because later Trails entries get increasingly more /m/ and religious, however the scenarios involving the mecha are nothing like Xenogears and Trails' religion is completely made up and plays an entirely idifferent role in Trails' setting compared to Xenogears.
Soap opera.
Trails is literally "the big mysterious bad guy sends villains from their shadowy organization to terrorize the world and you spend 9 games fighting them"
>I wish Trails was generic, I really do, because if Trails was generic then it'd mean incredible things for the JRPG industry
It's incredibly generic, you only say it isn't because of localisation playing the dialogue up and it having the luxury of direct sequels with the same cast. There is pretty much nothing unique about it apart from the small scale progression, and even that led to terrible pacing.
That's one of the most common tropes in the book though. You might as well argue that Trails is copying Inspector Gadget and that the Grandmaster is Dr. Claw and Oroboros is M.A.D.
I don't know if I fell out of love for RPGs or these games are overrated as shit. I'm believing the former because I loved CT as a kid but it's so mediocre now.
FC is tolerable at best even though its basically 50 hours of character introductions and little else of note happening. SC and 3rd are straight trash though. SC is over 80 hours of roaming around the same exact places you did in FC.
Oh, sure it starts off with promise. New locale, new items needed to help solve a sort of puzzley first dungeon. If nothing else you think maybe the exploration part of the games improved. It isn't. That stuffs essentially dropped immediately for the rest of the game, barring one late game dungeon. Third is all dungeon and all bad.
Definitely the former. I still enjoy JRPGs and those games are mediocre as fuck. Don't fall for the meme about SNES JRPGs.
The story of FC and SC are good and I really like the main cast of characters. The combat sucks though.
>blocks your path
Maybe but not the fucking 2nd game of all things.
>Turn based
>Good
Yikes.
>It's incredibly generic
I wish it was.
t. joshua
No need to wish, just complete more than a few JRPGs/anime.
haha
>snes jrpgs
Suck ass. I've played many. At the time they were new. Only Earthbound was good and even today I only get through replaying it due to extreme familiarity. Tried playing EB0 years back when it released on Wii U and dropped it some 5 hours in. The same fate would have befell EB had I first played it in 2014.
even when theirs no grind. the combat is rarely engaging and still gets boring quick.
Fuck I meant the latter
Agreed.
Prove that you actually know what generic means and name some stuff that's actually similar to The Legend of Heroes while simultaneously being older than The Legend of Heroes.
Put your money where your mouth is, parrot.
Name anything, odds are I've already watched or played it.
>good
>no NTR
