Conan Exiles

ARPGs.

how so?
it's quite broad as a genre definition

Diablo clones. Looter shooters. Basically everything which is about item hunting.

MonHun

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, Dawn of Sorrow, and Bloodstained. The random soul/shard drops compel you to obsessively kill the same enemy again and again, until the item drops. Bloodstained is actually better in this respect, because it gave you incentive to desire weapon drops, food drops, and material drops, as you can craft them all. So now you're compelled to try and get every random drop possible. Just grinding away like a madman.

Fortnite.

the world is a skinner box

I think Borerlands games are a great example of this

that’s why good video games are an escape

Warframe pre 2019
Seems like anything before then felt alot more fun. The think with skinner boxes is that you can easily and quickly get burnt out. My favorite moments was when i got Mesa Prime the week it was released. Alot time was when Trinity Prime was announced to be vaulted, needed 1 more part and got it when i used my last egg that had the part in it.

deep!!!

came here to post this. I’d say diablo 2 clones though, as diablo 1 wasnt even that bad about it, it was moreso a limitation of the tech then, but fucking diablo 2 sealed the coffin, I will never not be mad about it. at least arpg’s like souls games are being made that flesh out the potential without relying on skinner box nearly as much

doin alright there friend?

give me a quick rundown on the pic

Look up Fredrick Knudsen Rat Utopia on YT. Pretty great video covering it. I'll link it in case you don't feel like looking it up

>At the peak population, most mice spent every living second in the company of hundreds of other mice. They gathered in the main squares, waiting to be fed and occasionally attacking each other. Few females carried pregnancies to term, and the ones that did seemed to simply forget about their babies. They'd move half their litter away from danger and forget the rest. Sometimes they'd drop and abandon a baby while they were carrying it.
>The few secluded spaces housed a population Calhoun called, "the beautiful ones." Generally guarded by one male, the females—and few males—inside the space didn't breed or fight or do anything but eat and groom and sleep. When the population started declining the beautiful ones were spared from violence and death, but had completely lost touch with social behaviors, including having sex or caring for their young.

How can you say something so controversial yet so brave?

Rats are given a perfect life in a rat utopia they eventually go insane and kill each other or die of boredom, apparently without the exitement of surviving animals just fucking die... and is exactly what is happening to humanity right as we speak

Every gachashit app sold on the Apple store.

This is why utopias are destined to fail imo

bingo. living without problems is equivalent to death. all utopian systems are doomed from the start.

I dont think you understand the skinner box

runescape

for real
overpopulation is one of the greatest threats we, as mankind, will face in the near future
but nobody, politicians and the like, had the balls yet to admit it yet alone doing anything

monster hunter

>kill monster
>receive mats
>make weapon to kill monster to receive mats to make weapon to kill monster to receive RARE mats

It really says more about the species' impulsive nature than the environment though.

explain then

>save edit
>still enjoy the game
really telling when you can shatter the progression into a million pieces and then still fight things for fun

At the end Zig Forums's Zig Forumsfags are the heroes humanity need because most of them won't procreate.

csgo
queue with a good team and perform good, win and feel some sense of pride. queue and get a bad team and perform poorly, get some assholes ragging on you in chat and your teammates getting salty and toxic. online competitive games are skinner boxes

Hollow Knight

>exploration >gathering >combat >repeat

Mobile games have perfected this

>tap your screen every day to make number go up
>also you can pay more for your dopamine fix
