Surf servers do it right by having it as a reward. Complete a difficult course, free teleport to the enemy spawn or a hidden area that lets you shoot at the enemy spawn. Sometimes they'll even let you build engineer teleporters at the end to help your teammates slaughter enemies. Any surf server using spawn protection is completely missing the point.

It's only really an issue on shit maps (ctf) the rounds end too quick for it to really be an issue on anything else.

It delays the spawn of your enemies allowing your team mates to capture the objectives and win.

not even that just short circuit or use explosives if its pyro or heavy

1) Cutting off reinforcements is extremely helpful to your teammates playing the objective. It can often be worth it to die just to take out a teleporter. But by spawncamping, you can take out an entire team of enemies before they even realize they're being spawn camped.

2) People coming out of spawn are extremely unsuspecting. Not only is it easy kills, but it can be a great opportunity to catch medics alone. It's kind of funny

3) If a team is getting spawn camped for a prolonged period of time, it's because they're so bad that they deserve it. Maps are designed to make spawn extremely easy to defend.

4) I'm good enough to never be responsible for my team getting spawncamped. On the extremely rare occasions that my team is so shit that I can't carry them, I can easily find another server. This means that getting spawn camped isn't upsetting, because I shouldn't even be on the server even if they happened to not be spawn camping us.

It’s not really fun in the authentic meaning of the word but more of a rush coming from a sense of empowering from killing someone without breaking a sweat, feeling a sense of accomplishment and fake success into believing you improve and are now above the average player

It technically doesn't because I'm not pressured by any potential judgement. If my team gets rolled and trapped, that's on the shoulders of the players who did and know they fucked up. The enemy team's competent members will be aware of the few people on our team that performed well before the camp started and may even pass sympathy along in chat. Spawn camping only ever has to offend the bad players, no matter the side. If you feel offended or guilty during a camp, then you probably know who's being part of the problem.
