> repetitive dungeon crawling > outdated turn based combat system that the game just expects you to be familiar with when you first start playing > over the top edginess throughout the story. > games on systems with bad hardware (why the hell would you put mainline smt iv on 3ds)
I love the music, some characters, and some of the general ideas behind the gameplay, but I just don't think they are implemented well. The dungeon crawling is repetitive, the stories feel cliched, and it's not a particularly easy series to get into in the first place.
Does it just click at some point? Zig Forums makes SMT sound like the best series ever, but I'm not understanding why.
I haven't played persona so don't call me a persona fan either
>> over the top edginess throughout the story You have never played a Shin Megami Tensei game.

Kill yourself
Jacob Bailey
How is battling Satan not edgy?
Benjamin Harris
You have to be able to enjoy dungeon crawling. Or at least tolerate it. I remember I only got into SMT back in my high school days because my friend was like "DUUUUUDE, ITS SO HARD DUUDE". He also me into DMC3 and Ninja Gaiden Black. In hindsight, SMT probably hasn't aged well.
If you don't like dungeon crawling and you don't like turn based systems then the series just isn't for you. What does that have to do with fighting supernatural entities?
Because it's not edgy to want to kill the devil? It's like saying priests are edgy for performing exorcisms.
Alexander Sanchez
Little upset that i might have that exact same nodachi (or odachi, i dont know)
Connor Murphy
Your fault for playing the first one instead of the actual good ones
Joshua Sanders
SMT suffers from exactly what Advance Wars suffered from: Every game is exactly the same.
Advance Wars died for Fire Emblem, which has more breadth, more mechanics to change, and a story that keeps people invested even with similar gameplay. SMT died against Persona which is simplified JRPG but held up by characters and story, rather than pure mechanics.
5 will probably do okay, but expect more "I wanted Persona and this isn't it Chief" reviews.
Levi Martinez
Yup
Charles Turner
>outdated turn based What the fuck does that even mean?
>SMT 1 & 2 is the same with nocturne and SMT4 The fuck are you smoking?
Imagine being proud of using water magic against a fire elemental enemy. Turn based was a necessity for old consoles to run jrpgs.
Hunter Barnes
>the snes games are exactly the same as nocturne, sj, nine and 4 are you high?
Josiah Thomas
>water magic in SMT (you)
Angel Ortiz
Persona's story and characters are terrible and far worse than SMT's. They talk more but they don't say anything
Mason Turner
maybe he's a persona 2 fan
Robert Watson
Congrats, you now realized the only innovation in jrpg combats is renaming elements.
Henry Perry
Name another game that allows you to disable opponents with spells while also gives you more turns to decimate them if you struck a weakness AND also allows the opponents to do the same if they are to ambush you
God is SMT going to become the next dark souls? >THIS GAME ISN'T INCLUSIVE ENOUGH FOR MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! If you can't fucking handle the game then play something else. We won't judge you as long as you don't try to bring our games down with you and change them.
Are the dungeons really repetitive and spammy with random encounters? I want to play Nocturne as my first.
Josiah Lee
3's S links were so much better.
Liam Smith
We all know that SMT is the Dark Souls of Persona games.

>killing old gods written by a certain racist is totally fine >killing greek gods is totally fine >killing dogs of wars because you are on the other side of the war is totally fine >killing satan? EDGY! This is what you sound like
Noah Robinson
Exactly this. Persona is SMT for people who don’t want to play SMT.
Evan Richardson
While you were posting retarded meme images that contributed nothing to your argument I actually played the game.
Lincoln Phillips
Why do people post shit bait threads?
Juan Lee
There's a reason why Persona became Atlus' flagship franchise despite being a spinoff. SMT's okay but it's really not THAT good.
Julian Sullivan
If you don't like dungeon crawling and fighting random battles every 5 seconds, SMT ain't for you nigga.
