What's the deal with HK

alright so what's the big deal over this game?
Haven't played a metroidvania in a while so decided to pick this up since Zig Forums can't stop sucking it's dick, and guess it kinda sucks.
Bland world too big for its own good.
Traversal is a bitch.
I know its a meroidvania but shieet the game is so boring.

There are a lot of legit autistic people on this board so it catters to them
I personally stopped playing after 4-5 hours because I didnt know where to go and thought this game wasn't worth my time
But again, PERFECT game if you're autistic

its a slow burn

gosh when are they going to announce the release date for silksong

Why do you willingly announce your double digit IQ in Zig Forums?

>high IQ means playing games that deliberately waste your time
yea gonna go with coal burning faggot on this one

It's just an average metroidvania that's more challenging than the other well known metroidvanias. Only postitive I found was that the platforming's somewhat better than Blasphemous. "Roguevanias" in general are pretty bad, to be honest.

NEVER PURCHASE CRYOGEAR

It's a fairly competent metroidvania with a unique-ish story and nice presentation.

we have this thread every fucking day

>world too big
ADHD zoomer gets filtered

>I personally stopped playing after 4-5 hours because I didnt know where to go
That's part of the appeal to some people

simple answer: autism and conformity,
>story is cool and art is good
bland art, deepest lore like dark souls except dark souls plays like god

It's been three and a half years already.

How has Hollow Knight gotten a fucking thread on Zig Forums nearly almost every day?
Is there any other indie game aside from Undertale, and even then UT doesn't get as much threads anymore, that has stayed in Zig Forums's head for this long?

There's currently two

Plus the dudes dropped a bunch of free DLC with heaps of boss fights and collectibles. It's a great game. People who say it's boring don't pay attention to its art and sound design. You are a bug in a bugworld. Live it. If it's too easy just handicap yourself with not getting nail upgrades. And the mods are great as well.

It's not very good. A lot of people here love it religiously because it was their first or one of their first ever 2D game. It's not even really a metroidvania.

I suggest Wuppo if you want a man's metroidvania.

too much downtime: the game
it's not bad but when you try to 100% it the diminishing returns kick in big time
>wot if combat was the focus but also the combat woz really boring

>People who say it's boring don't pay attention to its art

the art in hollow knight is horrible. why would I ever want to look at black + one color at a time? it's garbage. all the enemies basically look/are designed the same and it even has enemies ripped off from fucking binding of isaac of all things.

How many times are we going to have this thread and the same exact posts play out over and over again?

what do you think of the game user?

and yet here you are

I really cant tell if people actually hate HK or its just contrarianism. I played it for 40 hours, did the final boss and had fun. I didnt do the special true ending garbage because I got burned out but in general the game was very well put together and the enviorments enemys bosses were interesting looking.

I think it's crap. The "contrarianism" seems to be the worship of the game, but as I stated in it's just due to zoomers

its contrarianism, i only played through the game recently and while i wasnt blown the fuck away, it was far from bad
there is a LOT of people really sucking its dick so I have a feeling its just grandstanding

How far did you make it in the game? There's way more shit than that. Also, the only thing similar about enemies is their faces because they're fucking insects. Stop being a contrarian and just let yourself enjoy fun things. It's how I did Undertale, COD and all that jazz. Nobody is special. You don't need to be in some special club. Have fun.

>it was far from bad

but it is bad

>metroidvania
>one weapon
>one color
>one basic design of every creature in game reused 100000 times

the game isn't fun. I didn't make it that far because it's not fun and absolutely slow as ever loving fuck.

I love metroidvania, and it's not only not one, but one of the worst major ones if you count it as one. Dunno what to tell you.

I really think for most of you it was just your first or one of your first 2d games. I enjoy a huge range of games including every genre. It just wasn't good.

Someone who grew up on 2D just isnt impressed. Art too low effort, game too stale, game too slow.

You need a heart, a brain, and a soul to appreciate some games. Don't feel too bad.

who to believe?

How's it contrary to like a "critically acclaimed" game it goes with the common narrative
>t. Doesn't play vidya

Everyone saying it's bad got filtered by exploration.

i also noted the irony
i wont argue too much, the game was very boring to me and only started getting more interesting when more esoteric elements like the narrative and the ludicrous scale of the world started creeping in.
I have my complaints about the game as well, movement is very bland compared to its contemporaries, but on average metroidvanias are very safe. It was nice to see a game really double down on the environmental storytelling aspect.

>yet ANOTHER contrarian "HK is actually a bad game" thread on v
>weak vague reasons given as proof.

Yawn.

>How's it contrary to like a "critically acclaimed" game it goes with the common narrative

Because this is Zig Forums where "critically acclaimed" means you expect a game to be bad and we expect the opposite of the common narrative. Otherwise TLoU2 is goty, is that true to you?

This is a place expected to have better taste

Also a huge part of HK dicksucking is nintendo babies who go fucking insane over anything that hits their console. You know, if you spend time here, that nintendo "ally" types are much more vocal and post more than ANYONE else here.

>movement
Slow at first but the upgrades you get later on improve
>art
Purely subjective but I will say that it is no way low effort. Something can have effort and still be considered bad though.
>enemies
There are set types of enemies for each area, which is common in most games. The enemies are made to fit the environment and the story. With corruption spreading to other places, like the deepest and palace. They each have their own thing with some exploding, chargers, soul fuel and projectile.
>one weapon
The nail is very versatile. It has slight knockback (which can be removed) which stops you from getting to close to enemies and emulates impact. The nail can also bounce you across hard surfaces like spikes. This means you can jump on large enemies but bouncing on them to get behind for a longer opening. Once we throw in abilities it gets even better and adds to the platforming aspect if the game.
>spells BTFOs the one weapon argument. You can charge different amounts of time for speed and power
>bosses are very unique and different. everyone has a story and a harder version of thanks to the dream nail. You aren't locked behind one as you can fight in various orders.
>exploration. Get past the first couple hours and you'll see that it's a meme to think it's bland.
>badges
The core of the fun, mix and match abilities to your hearts content. Go glass canon, tank or utility help. It rewards exploration as theirs like over 40 to find and you can upgrade some
You're just admitting the majority of the board is contrarian, which it is.
