Because Zig Forums is more interested in vidya than the average person. I think the decline is steeper than what is conveyed in that image though.

After 6th gen for some reason PC stopped getting as many exclusives. I agree that it sucks, and a lot of my favorite games are PC games from the late '90s and early 2000s so I've become pretty disappointed. Console games and PC games can both be good, but only when one or the other is the main focus. Trying to make a game for both ends up with the worst of both and best of neither.

Realistically this is a strawman, but the main problem is that the push for AAA gaming, and high end graphics along with an oversaturated market means there's way less room for experimental shit, hidden content in games, exploration without padding etc.

The main example I can think of is JRPGs where a bunch of them had an overworld, now those games are mostly pretty hallways. Then you have games like DmC which, aside from graphics they didn't really do anything that wasn't already done or possible in the previous games.

There was a point where you would hear a series is getting a new installment and there was almost a guarantee it would be better, able to contain way more than the previous either because technology advanced or an engine refined etc. People are still trying to figure out why the upcoming next gen consoles are even necessary or what they'll even allow. Games either lack content because it takes too much time and money to make it, or said content is better off being sold to you later.
