Does "strong" mean a mary sue who is physically strong and capable of kicking everyone's ass while having no criticism leveled at her? They're terrible.
If you actually mean a STRONG character then I don't care their race or gender. If they have strengths and weaknesses, a clear goal and motivation, and take steps to fulfilling their goal using their strengths and overcoming their weaknesses they will typically be likable no matter what. There aren't even that many strong male characters let alone female ones in video games.
