Will there ever be a good MMORPG ever again and why not, Zig Forums?

Convenience streamlining fundamentally ruined the genre
In order for mmos to be good again they need to retire the genre for a while. Let technology advance and give some time to rethink the entire formula instead of cranking out these by the numbers games.
play xiv or play a different genre
xiv isn't an mmo
Probably not. Everything is instence/lobby based garbage these days. At least I have my Archeage Unchained. All I'll ever need for a long time.
These threads depress me. I miss being addicted to an MMO, now I just afk at crabs on OSRS while I shitpost here and watch the chinese dam slowly break
I enjoy gw2 but I'm autistic and take yearlong breaks
I don't entirely disagree, but it doesn't change how I feel about my statement
FF14 is the best there is right now. Classic was really awesome until everyone hit 60 and did a couple raids ever since the worlds been dead then all there really was left to do is raid log and that's anti-fun, might as well play fucking retail.
I'm looking forward to the amazon mmo just to see how big of a explosion it'll make when it crashes.
Focus less on putting people through gear grinds and dailies. Focus more on making people roleplay and community.
What makes a good MMORPG to you?
holy shit this image makes me sick
ASHES OF CREATION
I only play OSRS.
Your statement being "Play this non-mmo if you want an MMO"?
Okay raidlogging tranny parsetard.
There is literally not a single other modern MMO worth playing right now, and private servers for the real MMOs are largely buggy as shit with retarded devs.
i do the same thing. i come back every 6 months and fuck around in wvw.
Honestly I have more time exploring around maps in GW2 than ff14, it feels super stale.
Never. WoW fundamentally destroyed the formula for all MMOs onward.
>used to be able to put 12 hours a day, for months on end into MMOs
>try to go back to them and lose interest within hours
>trying other games and I get maybe a day or two before it stops being fun, singleplayer or multiplayer
>keep doing fuck-all every day till I'm tired enough to go back to bed thinking 'maybe the next game will be the one I can get into'
Not only is the genre dying horribly, but becoming an adult and nothings fun enough to fill the void makes it 5x worse
>other
XIV isn't an MMO though.
There are no true MMOs that are still alive
Thats why I put thousands of dollars into my sportscar, it is the only way to cope. That and aquariums. I have my hobbies but I miss MMORPG addiction like nothing else. Runescape is a fun afk laid back game but it isn't the same. Ive never viewed Runescape the same as other games for some reason.
>endless no true scotsman fallacy
These threads are pure fucking garbage.
its the next no mans sky
Meh, I've always been in the same boat. It's pretty fun to dick around in, but I've just never been able to take it as seriously as I did something like early WoW, FFXI, etc.
for me it was around when GW2 came out that I realized the good old days were in the past
The worry i have for ashes of creation is that the main progression of nodes seems to be dailies, and the crafting and skill bits seem to be mostly lifted from ESO.
So basically you've got ESO but instead of story you've got dailies.
this
>next big thing will probably be virtual lobbies for normies to play/watch dumbshit together like VR chat but with an increase amount of "believable reality"
the whole game is lifted from other games, thats the point
my concern is how ambitious it is, not that any of the mechanics are per se bad
doesn't have the same problems and they've already put shit out demonstrating that there is actually a game there
I dont think node dailies will be an issue unless your in a guild whose specifically going for a certain aesthetic since its EVERYONE in the node contributing to its development
To you, 2000 threads from now
I suppose that's true, I guess it'll depend on how deep the class customization goes to determine whether it'll make up for the lack of a real plot.
every game is an mmo now where you log in and do dailies
Because metafags blow through all of the content and everything is spoiled to you through a Wiki that is 100% required to progress.
Ashes of Creations looks good, but the races are boring.
I hope that they also turn the corruption system to a way to play the game and not a punishment. Playing corruption-only characters sounds like fun if done well.
The gaming industry shifted and absolutely wrecked the mmo genre
Streamers make it so even if someone does make a perfect mmo, their viewers will brigade and kill the game within days if not hours
I'm a poorfag but that sounds like a good time, both cars and aquariums seem like pretty enjoyable hobbies
I would have no problem with that image if the rest of the game is good
Not on PC. So basically like any other genre.
you're all bandwagoning faggots who'll only play a game if 10000000000 people are playing it. Just find a game you can play with a few friends and go from there
>Neowiz anything that's not DJMax
And I have more fun fighting bosses than doing anything combat related in GW2
This is why I don't understand the hype for Ashes of Creation. Streamers will burn any new sandbox MMO that releases to the ground.
>and not a punishment
it should be possible at best, and it sounds like you can kill bounty hunters
So far all they have is elves, humans and dwarves. Theres suppose to be orcs and that other race which I assume is a furry/beast race but those havent been shown.
how though, specifically? i mean ghost servers are the only thing I can think of but that isn't a problem if you just avoid them
No. That's a good thing. These are autistic timesinks. Kill monsters to get loot so you can kill monsters to get loot.
People are still hyped because they havent seen what streamers do to a game like it
Archeage's entire faction balance got fucked by streamer guilds because they all went to the same faction
I wish i could be excited for ashes but i know what will happen when streamers with 20k viewers touch it
>buying hundreds of thousands worth of physical shit when you could be having more fun for $15/month
