Look at how successful P4 was on PC, and P5R was on PS4 respectively. Then, look at the recent mini direct, just look at the comments and all the dislikes the thing has.
You literally just have to take a look at these to realize that Nintendo fans don't give a single SHIT about Atlus and their games. Why is it a Switch exclusive when the actual audience for this stuff is found in these other platforms?

The actual trailers have a high number of likes. Compare the trailer on the Nintendo channel for SMTIII HD (21k) to the one on the Playstation channel and oh wait, they didn't even bother to upload it in the west and Japanese PS account only has 1.3k likes.

Switch owners seem to lap up any jrpg, so they're a safer bet than trying to see if Persona fans will actually try a SMT game. Even the switch version of Octopath Traveler sold decently.

SMT IV sold enough on 3DS to warrant a direct sequel/spinoff. Don't remember seeing all this bitching and moaning on the front page back then.
Also, the Persona series began on Sony consoles and until recently, has remained there. Mainline SMT has always mainly been nintendo exclusive with the most notable exception being nocturne because the disparity in ownership compared to the gamecube was ridiculous.

I don't understand why people are now getting upset now when this was announced 3 years ago as a Switch game. Nintendo themselves announced the localization instead of Atlus, it's clear as fucking day they're supporting SMT between that and the cross over promotion between IV and Fire Emblem Awakening and even TMS#FE despite the dumpster fire that ended up being.

Atlus can't into HD. There's a reason P5 got delayed as much as it did, and SMTIV went to the 3DS.
Developing just for the Switch is less expensive and probably much easier for Atlus. I can see a PC port coming if they don't have an exclusivity deal with Nintendo, though.
