What is a "good" character design really? It seems like one of those things that's impossible to look at objectively and it just matters to personal taste.

Check out Amemiya Keita's other stuff if you like it, the guy basically makes one design with slight variations in shape and form.
These guys and Sea Slimes are the best designs in DQ.

Because he was a product of the Mesian faction, who were the focus on SMTII. He's not a demon in the series, just a generic enemy.
actually in terms of color and composition it's pretty good. straight forward, you know what you're looking at pretty much instantly. solid sense of form, basics of anatomy are on point. gets a thumbs-up from this certified retard.
Couldn't be that good if you don't know her name. Jerking off to characters makes them hot, but not particularly good designs. SG's only good design is Big Band honestly, maybe Double.

Good taste, my favorite mavericks are Morph Moth, Gravity Beetle, and Toxic Seahorse.

What series is this, Zone of Enders? Need to get around to play them, look cool. Kaneko actually did some designs for the series. Also did some mechas for Super Robot Wars.
The Minotaur with the skull face nose is a neat idea, but it just looks off-putting. It's still very well drawn though.
Even as a Kanekofag, yes.
Still, Kaneko had more successes then failures. We can't all hit it out of the park every time.

Kaneko didn't do art for SMTIV. Kaneko retired from doing art for the series after Strange Journey.
