All of the design mistakes starting with WAR / Modern Horizons are actually a side effect of the huge push WotC has to come out with a shit-ton of new sets, collector items (secret lairs, VIP boosters, etc) and they are focusing on marketing to whales extremely aggressively. This leaves design with almost no fucking time to test anything they make as there are 5 or 6 other products that need attention at any given time.
WotC need to slow their roll hard - you would think that with COVID they would have slowed a little but they are doubling down hard. Double Masters is a fucking overpriced joke, and they have straight up lied about it several times. We are three days into spoilers and nothing of note has been revealed beyond a few obvious money grabs (Jace, Vault). Imagine buying a VIP booster for $100+ and getting and Urza land and Expedition Map as your "guaranteed value" box toppers.
