What is so special about this game? I keep seeing it being called the best FF but I never played it
Final Fantasy XII
This game had the same syndrome as Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter of being much better than the series it is a part of but fans were frothing at the mouth because of how different it was and decided the game should pay for it. Now that these people probably moved to another series to ruin, people are realizing the game was always great. Also FFXIV has had FFXII related content for three years and it's making more people interested since it's in the same style.
The only final fantasy that is an actual rpg and not a hall way simulator. Also the story isn't corny weeb shit so a lot of neck beard fans of the series hate it because if that.
It has a metric fuckton of content and it's all fun.
I still remember the bomb king kicking my ass and then entering the necrohol of nabudis and seeing traps everywhere and level 50 enemies
This game was huge as fuck
It's a good game but it's literally the plot of star wars with a less likeable cast
The setting, environments and monster hunting quests are top tier but the music is meh
Great game on paper, terrible in execution. The game forces you to make it play itself for the most part of play sub-optimally. The story completely shits the bed in the second half. Vaan is a terrible protagonist. They set it in Ivalice and still made 5 party members humans and the 6th a human with bunny ears. The world design and dungeons are cool, but it loses a lot of its appeal when you realise that most encounters devolve into letting the AI spam basic attacks or whatever an enemy is weak to.
Zodiac Age goes some way to fixing it, with the job system adding some much needed depth to the gameplay, but ultimately it's still a game with huge wasted potential that gets more and more tedious as it goes.
Enjoyed it much more than FFX. I liked most of the cast and characters were really well written. It also helps that most of them aren't raging teenagers being insufferable as a quirky personality trait.
Don't understand the complaint that they are useless. FF8/FF9/FF10 had many more useless characters that were literally just there to tag along for gameplay purposes.
It's worth noting that the Ivalice stuff in XIV is handled by the original scenario writer for the Ivalice games and the XIV writers working in tandem, which has made it much more engaging on the whole so far with obvious corporate fiddling that XII had removed from XIV. No sign of Vaan so far, for example, and even if he does show up, I definitely think he'll be more like his re-imagined sky pirate counterpart like in TA2
It’s fucking kino. The gambit system is amazing. The story can feel a bit flat but the world is massive and free to explore.
People who called it an "Offline MMO" were idiots who probably never played MMOs. If anything, it's more like a CRPG made for consoles. Play KOTOR and you'll see you're playing basically the same game with clunkier graphics.
The story of FFXIV is even handled by the same guy who worked with Matsuno for most of his career. He wrote Heavensward by himself
>>Thinks Vaan is the protagonist
Let me laugh harder.
its actual legitimate dogshit.
main cast varies from good to fucking horrible, and you're stuck with all of them forever
the combat is irredeemably bad. genuinely fucking horrible, one of the worst ATB implementations across the series AND THAT IS FUCKING SAYING SOMETHING
It was decent at best. Its more appreciated now because FFXIII, its spinoffs and the Fabula Nova Crystallis project as a whole were pieces of rancid shit in comparison.
It does play like a mmo, the fact you compare KOTOR with this shows you're a retard.
FFXIII was made by the same people as the piece of shit that was FFX and ruined the series for almost two decades.
FFXII is a top tier Final Fantasy game and the devs worked on FFXIV 2.0 and literally saved the brand.
Right because setting gambits to have the game play itself is so MMO like. You're fucking braindead.
it was alright. I nearly fell asleep a couple of times playing the game because it was playing itself
>Its more appreciated now because FFXIII, its spinoffs and the Fabula Nova Crystallis
Omg hit the nail on the head, and many are playing with turbo mode, if you need turbo in order to enjoy a game that's when you know it's bad.
It's boring as shit.
The party has zero chemistry and the plot is bland politics 101.
The combat being hot garbage doesn't help either.
>Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter
>Anything other than boring trash
Nice try faggot
It's the whole design of the world and guests you fucking moron, this game was made back to back with FFXI and shares alot of similaries in it's core game design, big empty boring long maps.
>defaults to him when you enter towns
he kinda is
It's a godlike Final Fantasy and one of the best JRPGs around. I was in love with Ashe for a long time
it was the last ff i played without having the internet. sense of wonder and discovery was amazing and never relived since.
didn't help that it was followed by piece of garbage so bad i stopped caring about ff completely.
I used turbo mode for every FF remaster that has it. No one in their sound mind wouldn't use such a useful feature to cut the inherent repetitiveness of the genre.
There isn't a single FF that wouldn't benefit from a speed boost, except maybe FFT.
>There isn't a single FF that wouldn't benefit from a speed boost
Exactly but there is a big difference between being beneficial vs a must use feature, play this game at least once without turbo please i dare anyone who only played TZA then you'll see what we felt years ago. Most of the FFs i don't need to use turbo 6 7 and 10.
He IS you dumb fucking retard, look who always represents your game in dissidia.
You mean him?
The battles in 6, 7 and 10 are fucking slow as shit and the random encounter rate make it so that you always waste your time fighting even when you don't want to.
You have to be insane to think that games with random encounters doesn't make speed boost a must use feature. It literally feels worse playing these games than it does playing FFXII. I can make a beeline in any FFXII area in less than two minutes if I wanted to. You couldn't do that before.
>Keeps denying a sad reality
