Some of the best battle themes are chill and lower energy. They work much better than stuff like conflict's chime since you hear them so often. Combat feels relaxing instead of hearing the first few notes of a hype theme every few seconds.

Take bravely default for example, i loved making my builds and stream rolling everything on 4x speed, the battle theme works well in this case. Also the feel of adventure. Revo is amazing though holy fuck.

Yeah, I get that. Personally though, the opening bars of JRPG battle themes are most important since you can usually just autobattle and end combat in the first round while running through areas. I don't want to get tired of high energy grand flourishes or songs where the music doesn't even start properly by the time you kill your target. Bravely Default has some of the best though for sure.

I just played Bravely Defualt for the first time recently, it was breddy gud, though I didn't like the online features very much. Anyway, I would consider this better, as normal battle themes go.

I would have appreciated BD's music more if every track weren't recycled ten thousand times. Especially given how many times you end up going back through dungeons you've already cleared. Towns all got their own individual themes but you barely spend any time in them, the optional bonus bosses get shit like THIS and you'll probably never even fight them more than once and you're telling me I couldn't have gotten ONE more dungeon theme?

Of course it is, as much as it's a bit too linear for my taste compared to other SaGa game, but once you get into the groove the combat, exploration and character building autism is top notch, pretty great worldbuilding too but you gotta really dig for it.
