Never played a Final Fantasy in my life. Should I get 7 or 8 on the Switch? 8 has real character models and not chibi shit so that's a plus.

I liked both equally but 8's world is comfy as fuck. It's also hilariously easy to break the game system so you can be God early in the game. 8 only shits the bed around the early 3rd act and kinda hobbles to the finish but it's still a wild ride.

It also has the best OST of the bunch desu.

ff8 is good

get FF7.

FF8 has some odd ass mechanics for a FF game.

Examples:
FF8 has you draw spells from enemies to junction them to your stats so you get stronger.
FF8 also has level scaling, something that does not exist in other FF games. Meaning the best way to play is to run from every encounter after you draw 100 of each spell from it for each party member.
FF8 also has a weaker cast compared to FF7.
FF8's "romance" is badly done since most of the development comes out of left field

>FF8 also has a weaker cast compared to FF7.
I disagree. 7 has the number but FF8's cast is laser compared to it where the only ones that mattered was Tifa and Barret. Maybe Cid too but the rest can fuck off.

and the only ones that mattered in 8 were Squall and Rinoa.

ff8 has triple triad, which is the only good thing final fantasy has ever regurgitated except maybe the tactics spin offs, and not even all of them

Each filled their role in the story well enough but 8 was so short that it seemed more streamlined. Unironically, 7's characters were all over the place while 8 did it with its story.

don't start with 8. It has a great story and soundtrack and the battle system can... be fun. But it is solely based on using your magic for your stats. So if you use magic, your stats decrease. Also enemies level with you and you shouldn't level up until you get most summons, because summons give you permanent stat points per level up. So if you level up without the summon's help, you have somewhat ruined your characters. So I really wouldn't recommend this for a first time final fantasy player because all this can get annoying. Start with 7 or 9 instead. They are way easier for final fantasy newcommers. The chibi shit won't bother you that much in ff9 because the ingame models still look like ugly ps1 models anyway and the story is actually still pretty dark despite the chibi look.

No matter the flaws in VIII, it will always be my favorite FF Game. Fujin a cute.

How much magic are you shitting out that it's actually affecting your stats enough to fuck up your performance in battle? I can understand being conservative with shit like Ultima and Flare or Meteor but goddamn you people act like you're crippled if you use the -aga spells on anyone.

Start with 7, so you can look forward to the best FF, which is 8.

>Each filled their role in the story well enough

Quists, Zell, and Selphie had a role?

FFIX > FFVIII > FFVII
The HD remasters are shit though

>Zell
Absolute bro.
>Selphie
Loves Trains.

Compared to Yuffie, Vincent, Cait Sith and Red? Yeah.

I ruined my save file that way and had a level 100 Squall with no spells left. I couldn't defeat a boss and started the game new but didn't finish it until 6 years later. I really don't think this system is all that fun for someone who wants to experience final fantasy for the first time. I mean, isn't it great to test out all those great spells in ff7 and 9? But in 8 you lose strengh when using them. So I think it is more suited for someone who has played at least one other final fantasy before.

>Also enemies level with you and you shouldn't level up until you get most summons, because summons give you permanent stat points per level up. So if you level up without the summon's help, you have somewhat ruined your characters.
This only matters if you are insanely autistic about having your characters be as optimized as possible like I was. The game is easy enough that you don't need to worry about any of that as long as you junction everyone with decent spells.

>Implying you need x99 (spell) to max out stats

It's not a perfect system but i didn't mind it one bit and i never though "Oh no, i can't use that spell, i might lose 1 Attack."

Don'd mind me, just posting best Boy.

>But in 8 you lose strengh when using them.
Negligible strength unless you're spamming them 50 per battle. The problem with the system is that it assumes autismals that play FF games are in control of their OCD.

Are you new to FF? If so, I don't recommend VIII. 8 is my first and favorite, but I struggled alot in my first playthrough. It's really easy once you do your research. Still, I would recommend 4, 7, or 10 for entry points. If you decide to go with 8, let me know so I can give you some tips.

I think the last boss is difficult and I almost cried but I managed to finish last boss on my first try.

those are not really roles

Being your bro is enough for Zell to be honest. Not everyone needs to be an integral Part to the Plot. He was just Zell.

VIII is good but weird and VII is less weird and better
You should play all the ps1 games but I’d play VII and IX before VIII

>So if you level up without the summon's help, you have somewhat ruined your characters.
You don't need their +stat level up skill at all to finish Omega.

8 is more broken of a game and junction system many dont like too much but has the best fukin music

Oddly enough, Zell was the nerd in the group, giving insight to the team. Especially helpful in the Deep Sea Research. Though you had always have in your party. Zell and Rinoa were the best ones for your main party.

>Meaning the best way to play is to run from every encounter after you draw 100 of each spell from it for each party member.
People still repeat this shit in 2020? Even if you wanna do low level runs it's far better to card enemies and mod the cards and items than being a retard and sitting around drawing a gorillion times every encounter

I always had Xell and Irvine with me. Adventure with Bro's for me. Witches need not apply!

>Though you had always have in your party. Zell and Rinoa were the best ones for your main party.

why Rinoa? She's an annoying bitch

>People still repeat this shit in 2020?
It still carries as much weight as being able to Hold O to win in FFXV

Why are blue mage skills so unbelievably trash in these games? I liked Irvine because his AP ammo is ridiculously OP. Rinoa's limit break needs spell tweaking to do Lionheart levels. Zell and Squall's limit breaks were the most fun though.

Yeah if you are a good player but I was and still am noob. I play because of the story and I assume someone who hasn't played an FF before is also somewhat of a noob. Even admitted that despite ff8 being their favorite, it involved struggle the first time playing it which I didn't experience at all in for instance ff7 and 9.

>best fukin music
youtube.com/watch?v=74ZXp_5M_7c

I've heard this so fucking often. Tripple Triad was so much fun.

>Witches need not apply!
This sort of Witch Exclusionary Radical SeeDs thinking is why Ultimecia tried to compress time.

Whatever you do NOT start with FF8 as your first FF.

FF8 is considered the black sheep of the PS1 era for a reason. It has a very clunky system for newcomers, and is just overall a very different FF (consumable magic instead of MP, enemy level scaling, you don't buy and equip new weapons, etc). I definitely recommend trying it, but only after 7 or 9. I'd also recommend 4 and 10.

They're both good choices, but if this is your first FF game ever then you should go with 7. The story is a bit more focused and the materia system is pretty easy to get into. If you like that try 10 and then go back to play 8.

Weakest PS1 FF game for sure

>Why are blue mage skills so unbelievably trash in these games?

because with Quists (and Kihmari) you could only use the blue magic with a limit break.

I had a few lucky breaks but just barely managed to beat Ultimecia on my first attempt too. It didn't help that I had no idea you had to use every single party member and I only had junctions on three of them.
I beat Omega Weapon the first time as well, but I did get wiped and was saved by a lucky Phoenix proc so I dunno if that one counts.

High magic and spr stats. Plus Angelo skills were really good.

They weren't? Quistis' Blue Magic was really good. She also had White Magic to cure the party

The cast of FF8 was just...odd. They're ALL from the same orphanage including Edea and Cid? And no one remembered? Did I miss something (I haven't played it since release)?

>I had a few lucky breaks but just barely managed to beat Ultimecia on my first attempt too.
But that's the best and most kino way of beating a boss.

>High magic and spr stats.

which means nothing when you don't level
