Does this game still hold up in 2020? I have never played it and want to know if its worthwhile current year.

I played it for the first time circa 2015 and I loved it, so yeah it still holds up
Are you playing on ps4?
I have both a ps4 and a PC so I'm not sure which is better to play on
I legitimately thing this game is terrible and have no idea how people praise it so much or consider it a classic in any way. Everything it does well is gimmicky nonsense, while everything that matters (like level design, usage of functional upgrades, enemies positioned in clever ways, platforming) is handled atrociously. It is legitimately at the very bottom of every 'Metroidvania' I've played.
shit taste
Yes, yes, and yes. It's one of the best 2d games I've ever played, and I first played it 15 years after it came out.
It "holds up" fine. It's not like Metroidvanias have radically changed since 1997 anyway. The level design isn't near as tight as in something like Metroid and the combat/balancing isn't as polished as Hollow Knight or even SotN's own GBA/DS offspring, but the game overall hangs together pretty well. The environments are what make it more than anything.
It's a pale imitation of super metroid but the first few hours are good and the ost is fantastic.
It does dip in quality significantly though. The level design is mediocre because of the stupid idea to flip the castle upside down later - so all the rooms are just mostly empty rectangles because they have to be traversible in both upside down and normal orientation.
Either should be fine. PS4 version has the PSP voice acting and the PS1 version has the original iconic voice acting. Personally I vouch for ps1 version because of Alucards voice
It's a great game but I heard that the Saturn version has more content
>The environments are what make it more than anything.
Don't forget the music!
It holds up in that it's just a 2D sidescroller which don't age. Unfortunately it's just not a good game. You just spend most of it mowing down pushover enemies with very few inspired pieces of level design.
Well you not only have shit taste considering the level design is great and the upgrade usage is great, but you clearly and both blind and deaf because the music and graphics are amazing.
Controls feel a little clunky by today's standards, but it's still a great experience. This is from a guy that played it for the first time in 2013 on a Vita.
I have now beaten it 3 times and I regret nothing.
WHAT IS THIS GAME!?
A giant heap of secrets
>Does this game still hold up in 2020
Don't be a zoomer and immediately read 3 guides and a wiki about how to break the game, because it's extremely easy if you know what you're doing to ruin it for yourself. Blind first playthrough? Yeah, it's still fucking fantastic 10/10.
This guy fucking gets it
Yes. I played it for the first time last year and loved it.
It's extremely easy anyway. Not even trying o be a tough guy, it's just an easy game. It's a slog at the beginning but the game will break itself quickly as long as you don't just walk past all the optional areas.
Gay anal
I'm thinking more along the lines of
>this one weird trick
>keep all of your end game equipment on the first screen of the game
>death hates him!
that sort of stuff, yeah it isn't hard by any means but it's entirely possible to trivialize the entire game on the first screen
Games (and all things in general) don't age so yes it does. If it was good once its good forever fuck all of you that talk about "dated" mechanics or whatever the fuck
Come on man. Netflix is a cancer, but that doesnt mean we cant enjoy SofN for it's gameplay.
Other than the MC having been turned into a fucking faggot, absolutely.
It's alright, a bit disappointing if you played the GBA and DS games.
Best "metroidvania", still.
One day something will surpass it, though, and it might even be a game by konami themselves.
Gay anal
I lost interest when you get to the inverted Castle sadly, but I did quite enjoy the main game.
Just play it faggot, you'll have 100x a better time than if you played some new garbage like TLOU2 anyway.
How gay do you have to be to lose interest 5 hours into a game
It's kino. Play Bloodstained too. Both fucking masterpieces.
