If I had to guess I would say the punishment for abusing the power of waking if being "ejected" or banished from the world line you're in by some universal power or force.
LIke with all the talk of fate about how th good guys were supposed to lose the final battle and that the Master of Masters's plan so far seems to be about changing/breaking fate I almost think there is some as of yet unrevealed force that pushes the world in a given direction, usually a bad one. Maybe that is the true big bad of the series.
So yeah, Sora saved the day by screwing with fate and was kicked out as a result. I think him ending up in Shibuya where the Reaper Games of TWEWY take place is more or less a coincidence and Nomura being dumb but not any indication that he's actually dead.

You see, she was possessed by Luxu at the time and the night Destiny Islands was consumed by darkness was the night Sora was first deemed worthy of using a Keyblade (well because Riku let DARKNESS live rent free in his heart). So Luxu finally able to open the box and present the meal to Sora, the home cooked taste of which along with his new keyblade would have awakened slumbering memories within him telling him HE was actually a time traveling MoM but he ran off before he could eat it and the box was lost during the destruction with Luxu repossessing Xigbar and having to search for it ever since.

It's amazing how much I don't care about this shit. It's not about being a mobile even if it was on consoles the idea that Maleficent has been time traveling to the past since KH1 and met this new Darkness character and Xehanort's backstory with he facing Emblem Heartless even though those are HIS creation? I just would not care anymore. Kingdom Hearts has become way too stupid. Way too stupid and unappealing. I just don't care and I want to see the series fail.

I think I'm just being held hostage by the series emotionally at this point. I played the first one as a kid when it came out and I got hooked, now I'm on this wild ride until Nomura lets me off. He knows damn well a sizable part of the fan base is like this too which is why all of the mobile game content is drip feed, to keep chumps like me checking back. Even for the real games, I was was largely disappointed by base KH3 and think charging $30 for ReMind was criminal even if it was pretty good, but I'll still buy the new rhythm game and whatever comes after day one.
