Its pretty fun

It's aight

It's easily the best game in the office supplies trilogy, but taken for what that's worth it's still not a great game like the N64 original. It feels like a lot of the glowing praise has been overblown in response to the hate base. It's similar to Pokemon Sword and Shield: Autists weren't happy the game wasn't everything it could have been, Twitter normies were happy it was a functioning game that wasn't as bad as the autists said it was.

It's ok if you just want dumb fun where you don't have to think (the game holds your hand way too much and treats you like a child), but if you go in thinking it is a RPG/return to form, it isn't.

I've been trying to work my way through it but I just have absolutely no motivation to even boot the game up. Every time I do play it's a decent enough time but I always play for maybe an hour at the most before setting the game down and go back to not really feeling compelled to pick it back up. I have yet to be engaged enough to play through an entire "chapter" in one sitting, and to me that's pretty sad.

Would you call yourself a fan of JRPGs?

The battle system looks tedious as fuck. Is it?

Yep

No

Do I have to like JRPGs and their tropes do enjoy this?

light puzzle/adventure collectathon and exploration game I enjoyed it
not like super amazing or whatever but it's like a 7/10

>functioning game
The sad part is it really isn’t even functionally sound. The battle system is flawed to its core, due to being completely avoidable.

any way you fold it, it's just another adventure game, and not an rpg.

It's great if you only own a Switch, as you don't have anything else to play right now.

It's mediocre and not worth $60.

Definitely the best one since Super Paper Mario, but still lacking most of its JRPG mechanics. The fun comes from the world and writing. The combat system isn't too bad either, actually ramps up difficulty nicely throughout the game. Solid 7.5/10

No, but if you’ve played any other paper mario but sticker star and color splash you’ll want to kill yourself because it’s on the same level if not lower.

It's like a 6.5/10. Just make TTYD 2 or Super Paper Mario 2, thanks.

>you get a Spike and a Bone Goomba partner for literally two minutes

The lost potential is infuriating. If they want to insist on giving you broken or limited battle systems then whatever, but at least they could've given you a rag-tag team of Mario enemy party members both iconic and unknown. Imagine getting shit like a Milde or a Lunge Fish as partners.

>Charlie/Cr1tikal's stream of this game where he hated it right up until the point that someone pointed out Tanabe said he doesn't care what fans want, which caused Charlie to like it
I don't get why Tanabe likes the least enjoyable part of an RPG (the battles themselves) without any of the other parts.

I don't get why anyone would go through the trouble of streaming a game they hate

sounds like you've got shit taste in video games

Popularity. And even after the "wow, devs are sticking to their guns, based" thing he did, he still didn't really like it.

It's weird that there was no option to hire temporary partners, seeing as that would give coins more value.

The combat was definitely the weakest part of the game. Still the most of the jokes were pretty funny and I liked the world and characters so I really enjoyed playing it. The boss designs were pretty boring since most bosses were just some stationery, but their battles were actually pretty interesting since you used their logical weaknesses to beat them. For example to beat the hole punch you tear of it back so all the clippings fall out etc.
Overall I would give it 7.5/10. If the combat had been just a bit more complex it would have easily been 8/10 or even 9/10.

It's a better game than anything since PM2, but still not what we want

That's stupid, he's already decently popular isn't he? and besides, if your audience doesn't like it either (which seems to be the case from what you said) wouldn't that hurt you more than anything?

The battle system is a bit meh, but tedious isn't really the word I would use.

?
The Origami King isn't a JRPG, it's an Action Adventure.

People seem to hate the battle system, but I think it had some potential.
If they had made more than just two shapes for your attacks, maybe add some enemies that would restrict the way you can move the rings and add some more complex enemy formations it would have been pretty decent battle system.

Not really. The only RPG series I ever made a genuine connection with is the original Paper Mario series. And I guess Pokemon to a lesser extent. Contrary to how most people seem to have played the original Paper Marios, I'm someone who enjoys engaging with nearly every enemy on screen until I'm strong enough to kick the living shit out of them. To me, that progression is incredibly satisfying and I love that the badge system allows you to build Mario up in a variety of different ways. But the thing that kept my engagement high through the turn-based battles was the action command system featuring a variety of simple yet distinct button and stick prompts to execute more powerful attacks. It really saddens me that all action commands are seemingly now reduced to pressing A at the correct time, with my biggest personal loss being the hammer action command. Pulling back that stick and releasing it at the right time felt so natural for an overhead hammer swing. It was basic, but enough to make it feel distinct from the jump-based attacks. I actually think the ring puzzle system in Origami King is a pretty neat idea, but the battles themselves seem really tacked on. The damage numbers all feel so arbitrary, and it sucks to solve the puzzle but sometimes not be able to dispatch of all the enemies in a single turn.

Yes cause it’s selling super well and it makes TTYDfags’ mental health deteriorates knowing that the only way they can get their game back in a by playing a buggy knockoff (lol)
