A bunch of fighting games are on sale on the nintendo e-shop. I've been meaning to try out the genre but I dont know which one to get, especially while im looking and blazblue has 45 different versions for sale.
Is something like street fighter or guilty gear beginner friendly?

You should get Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R.
It's intuitive, easy to pick up, and has a high skill ceiling. You can do a lot with it once you get the hang of it.
It's also one of the most balanced fighting games of all time.
I'd say you should just start with whatever interests you, but to my knowledge not many people play those games on Switch. Even if there are people, I doubt some guy playing +R on the Switch's online is going to be anywhere close to a beginner themselves. Still, they are good games and they're worth getting if you just want to get a feel for them.
As for Blazblue, all I would say is to get Cross Tag Battle if you want the newest one, or get Central Fiction if you want one that's a better representative of the series, seeing as Tag is changed a lot from the mainline Blazblue games as a result of it being a crossover tag fighter.
BlazBlue is a bit more difficult to learn than Guilty Gear. The newest version is Central Fiction.
BlazBlue Cross-Tag Battle is a very easy to play spin-off.
Thanks i might pick it up
Im not that super interested in blazblue, i was just remarking the many different versions i saw.
I'm not planning on sticking with the switch versions of them if i start to really enjoy them and want to play online. As I said, I just want to try the genre out, i've never played a fighting game before.
As an important note, Cross-Tag isn't great for learning fundamentals; neither is anything with an auto-combo system like UNiB.
UNI isn't on Switch anyway, is it? I don't think it'd be that bad for learning fundamentals anyway personally, the auto-combo feels like it's barely a factor starting out in UNI. If I were to consider it bad for learning fundamentals, it wouldn't be because of the auto-combo.
As a note for GGXXACPR, you might want to start with Ky. He's a lot easier than Sol, who has a weird Melee hitbox gimmick.
Here's a playlist for learning characters: youtube.com
>neither is anything with an auto-combo system like UNiB.
UNI's autocombo system is only good for blockstring tricks. The game has a 100% more applicable mission mode trials than blazblue so it would teach a better combo to use immediately
Dunno, but it is kind of a crutch, and in my opinion promotes bad habits.
I see why they do it, though. Arcades and such.
It is but people who play online are majority wifi users it feels like. Also will add that auto combos are not so good in UNI and really only good for messing with people during blockstring since you can reheat into it from B and C attacks.
Well, Guilty Gear is worth playing, but it's worth noting that if you end up really liking it, you won't have much way to play it online. I haven't played the Switch port, but I believe it's be your best way to play it online, the online on the PC version is awful and nobody uses it. You could play the most recent GG online, or the new one when it comes out, but not +R, unfortunately.
rebeat*
>bad habits
Exactly, I think getting 2.5k with meter is a terrible payoff and would make someone want to learn a real combo asap
>but not +R, unfortunately
You can play it online. It's just that it's not very good. I've played it on PS3, 360, and PC. It all works. You just have to be near the person you're playing with.
It's still better than Smash Ultimate's online.
I've only played it on PC, but it was far from being acceptable, even when I found someone nearby with a 3 bar connection. It still felt awful to play.
thanks guys just bought it, and watching the playlist
>fighting games with no crossplay on a Nintendo console and no pad/stick in an environment where everybody is playing on wifi
Bad move
Also don't fall for the guy telling you to play +R, it's a dead boomer game that nobody plays and has abysmal netcode.
>uni won't teach fundies because it has autocombos
Most retarded shit I've read in a while, have you even played the game?
to be fair i don't think someone new to fighting games would notice it that much. it's not great by any means, but... man, it really is better than Smash Ultimate.
It's a very, very low bar, honestly.
>Most retarded shit I've read in a while, have you even played the game?
Honestly. It's not like you NEED to use the autocombo inputs for extended hits like DBFZ used to do
Welcome to the community! There's a guy who does streams of it on twitch; classicfightinggamer if i remember it right.
>neither is anything with an auto-combo system like UNiB.
Stop that, you people act like one garbage string is enough to just make everyone rely on it like a crutch. Nobody uses that shit.
I haven't played Smash Ultimate so I can't compare it to that, but I feel like anybody would notice how bad +R's online is. Even the character select screen feels like it's underwater.
this poster has never been to a Japanese arcade
>You just have to be near the person you're playing with
yeah, like 5 feet away
it's also not a beginner friendly game at all, i know you are probably in love with the game but shilling it so hard to a beginner without being honest about the game is pretty wack. i wouldn't be surprised if the guy never touches a fighting game again after +R
IIRC Arcade doesn't even have smart steer.
This is why they can do 5AAAAA and keep getting 5A while in console/PC, you need to hold 8 while doing 5AAAA to get your 5As without activating smart steer.
>Even the character select screen feels like it's underwater.
I think CSS feels worse than anything else. I get what you're saying. It could really use rollback.
>it's also not a beginner friendly game at all
It is, more than any modern fighting game, by a lot.
Oh wait, nevermind. Guess I misread
you are delusional if you really believe that
>i wouldn't be surprised if the guy never touches a fighting game again after +R
because everything else is awful slow combo porn?
i guess ill find out in a bit which anons telling the truth
the second guy just popped into the thread to shit on everyone without offering anything substantial.
don't listen to him.
