This game was just as detrimental to the franchise as 06 was. I don’t care if it’s not a glitchy mess or doesn’t have the Werehog. It’s a shit game that further pushed the series in a bad direction.

This dude says the truth.
Sonic forces was made because of this game.
It was the right game at the right time. Refreshing, simple, without bloat. The problem was it was a good game for refreshing, but not something that could work long-term. It also didn't have a problem that keeps repeating since Generations - overload of nostalgia. Colors was a game set in unique locations with original power-ups. Generations showed that nostalgia sells even without good stories.
_____ ___ _____ ____
The story literally doesnt matter in Sonic. There has never been a Sonic game with a good story.
>picked a gameplay style and actually stuck to it for an entire game
>mix of longer stages and shorter, gimmicky acts is a nicer way to "pad the game out" than bullshit play-styles and medals and shit
>Wisps are fun little power-ups (with the exception of fucking Cube) and that are mostly for collecting red rings or alternate paths
>final boss doesn't just shoehorn Super Sonic and actually uses the Wisp powers that you've been using the whole game against you
Yeah, the game isn't challenging, boost inherently has some flaws, and the writing is still pretty cringy, but this game was still basically coming off of the coattails of Shadow and '06. It's a short little game with replayability, which is something Classic Sonic was always great at and something that was lost with the Adventure games and on.
It and Mania were the only consistently good Sonic games of the 10s.
You don't need writing/story as much as you do need context for doing stuff.
Boost gameplay is the best gameplay the sonic series has ever had. The only problem is that they overuse the "switch into 2D" sections. They also have never made a boost game with a decent number of unique levels.
Literally who cares about the context in a platformer? How about "Robotnik turned all the animals into robots". There you go. Now have Sonic run through a bunch of different themed levels to rescue the animals.
what is it with sonic games and looking surprisingly fucking good
>something that was lost with the Adventure
How? When there were multiple objectives per stage for emblems and in 2's case probably the strictest use of the ranking system since its introduction. Also Colors didn't pick one gameplay style like 30% is modern boost gameplay and the other 70% is awkward 2D sections.
Sonic Team tend to have top tier artists and musicians, and mid to low tier everything else.
I'd say it rivaled Galaxy as being one of the better looking Wii games. It unfortunately runs at 30 fps, but the map screens actually ran at 60 fps, so if you emulate it there's a 60 fps patch that works great. Plus all the other bells and whistles that comes with emulation just makes it look better.
idk man in SA2 you at least wanted to stop Eggman and Shadow from blowing up the planet. You actually wanted to explore levels for animals and rings and upgrades and shit.
In the newer games the only motivation you have to go fast is so you can stop playing sooner.
Alright settle down
How about the motivation of receiving a good score at the end of the level? Or beating your personal times? Or ranking on the online leaderboards? or exploring the levels to find those red coin things?
I'm surprised Sega never re-released this on another platform. Even when emulated it still looks great, so it's not like the game's assets need to be heavily touched up or anything.
I mean, they ported Lost World but not Colors? Makes no sense.
Uh, user, those things aren't lore-related nor do they have achievements tied to them, so there's no reason to care about them.
Colors was fine, it even had some great music: youtube.com
Sonic just blows ass in 3D, why measure the fucking intensity of the anal winds?
See
I started playing Generations after being annoyed by some of SA2's lesser refined mechanics. In SA2 the motivation for score is there. Higher score gives you an A rank which in turn unlocks stuff for the Chao garden. Rings let you buy the stuff you unlock. Exploration of levels give you the upgrades you need to get more emblems.
Everything has a purpose. In Generations you can finish with hardly any rings and still get S rank.
I think that user was being sarcastic dude. Who gives a shit about sonic lore or cheevos?
Sarcastic or not he's right. The incentive for getting S rank or finding Red Coins in Generations just isn't there.
The story never compelled me to do any of that.
>reading comprehension
The amount of 2D sections in this game is truly abhorrent. Apologists will downplay it or make excuses but when the MAJORITY of your "3D" Sonic game is spent in shitty 2D sections that feel like Sonic Rush w/ wisp gimmicks then it doesn't feel like I'm playing a real 3D Sonic game.
nah bro
this is the abyss itself
>This game was just as detrimental to the franchise as the game that was incredibly and objectively bad was because similiar games that came long after it were bad
I hate this logic so much.
>This game was just as detrimental to the franchise as 06 was.
If you seriously believe this then you deserve shit like Forces and Heroes. I don't even really like Colors.
It’s not just because it influenced the other games after it. It’s a poorly designed game with way too many filler levels and is incredibly short.

But how was it any detrimental to the franchise as Sonic 06?
