I want to get into the racing genre.
Recommend some games, preferably arcadey
I want to get into the racing genre
Outrun 2
Cars 3
That's a movie
Sega Rally Championship
F-Zero X
Wave Race 64
Daytona USA 2
NFS Underground 2
NFS Most Wanted (2005)
Burnout 3 Takedown
Burnout Paradise
Trackmania
Ridge Racer Type 4
Thank you
What's the point of playing retro simulation type games? Especially when they've been replaced by better looking games. Isn't the whole point of simulation, well, to simulate? Never much cared for racing so I can't really say
Absolutely great game in all aspects.
I like colorful simple graphics
Modern racing games aren't colorful?
I don't think so, it tries to be realistic
Nothing posted ITT is simulation racing.
Forza Horizon series. Great because you get a ton of different things to do and if you need a break you can just cruise around, collect or tune cars. Extremely comfy.
shameless self promotion
compilation: youtube.com
single race: youtube.com
for clarification these are drift racing clips rather than grip racing, initial D fans yes, F1 fans no thanks
Split/Second
seconding this. I loved the shit out of Forza Horizon 4 and the only other racing games I liked were Midnight Club, Burnout, and Mario Kart 64.
BallisticNG, dirt cheap because the dev didn't want to charge for it until his mom made him
youtube.com
Gran turismo 2.
>i want to get into the racing genre
lol fuck off zoomer
no way you're old enough to post here and have never come across a racing game
okay dude
probably not the best reccomendation since someone new to racing games entirely would rip their head off in anger trying to play it
>gatekeeping racing games
fucking stupid because growing up all the racing games i played were old like destruction derby and shit, there werent games being released as i grew up, so its total luck i played any at all
forza 2 grief videos sealed the deal later of course but i wouldnt have looked for them if not for a game from 1995
racing is a farely recent resurgence, forza was silently uploading in the background, but no one cared until F1 and Iracing and shit in the 2010's
I disagree, anti grav racers are pretty intuitive
>all aspects
You mean the part where in order to progress you have to lose the race on purpose so you spend dozens of hours trying to get exactly 3rd and 2nd places?
Split Second. That shit is too good.
Arcade:
Trackmania 2020 is great, multiplayer hotwheels, and will love the graphics. Almost Valorant style but not to the point of being low resolution looking.
Wreckfest is great, best destruction racing game since Burnout Paradise.
Sim:
Assetto Corsa Compeitizone for poors
iRacing for non-poors that understand games don't need to be about collecting everything
BeamNG is a very fun toy, think gmod for cars minus multiplayer
This.
>best soundtrack in any racing game
>best looking racer on PlayStation
>tight, challenging drifting
Not wipeout, that shit is waay too floaty and the weapons are just retarded. F-zero and fast RMX are where it's at.
fpbp
>racing is a farely recent resurgence
No it isn't. Racing games are dead and have been for the past decade.
It's a former shell of a genre devoid of any creativity or advancement, like most games. It exists for children to ask mommy for Forza every year so they can buy all the car packs and loot box spin-the-wheels until the next game comes out.
Codemasters release their budget low effort shit year in year out as usual with no fucking difference between a different roster and maybe the graphics are better or maybe they're worse who knows who cares.
Indie devs release their retro-pandering utter wankshite. "Look guys! It's low-poly!"
Yeah low-poly graphics were the reason people liked old racing games, it had nothing to do with fun gameplay or soul or anything who gives a shit about that. Just make a low-poly indie game with shit physics and some retards will wet themselves in excitement.
Simracing has you covered with a game that came out 6 years ago or a subscription service you have to sell your house to unlock everything in.
BallisticNG is the one good offering but it's a fucking antigrav racer so it doesn't count.
And that's it. Welcome to the racing genre in 2020. The only thing to have gotten better is emulation of older systems which says a fucking lot about the quality of modern offerings.
Google "1998 Racing games"
start there. Play whatever looks like you'll enjoy it until you get to the 10s. Stop there. Go back to the 90s and play what you missed until you get to the 10s again. Rinse repeat until you're playing japanese exclusive hentai games for Windows 98 because there's fuck all else to choose from.
Alternatively if you don't wanna put up with Ubishit's subscription bullshit just get Trackmania United which actually has more enroviments than 2020 at the moment
>>racing is a farely recent resurgence
>No it isn't. Racing games are dead and have been for the past decade.
10 years ago is recent you mongoloid
Name a more arcade-y racing game
Pro tip: you can't
>pretty much any big name SEGA arcade racing game
>games in the Need for Speed series, would personally recommend games from Hot Pursuit 2 to Most Wanted
>the Burnout games
>F-Zero SNES, X, and GX
Have fun OP
