There's nothing mechanically wrong with the remake. All of the (completely justified) criticism is directed at the narrative changes.

If you do not care that the remake rapes the cold corpse of the original story with a 12-inch rubber dildo, then sure, you're probably going to think it's a good game.

How is it bait? It's completely true that the remake alters the story heavily, and not in a good way.

For a 6-years-in-development remake of one of the most famous and well-loved video games of all time its pretty mediocre.

The game starts brilliantly but quickly gets bogged down in so much padding to the point of tedium. And the combat system is ass.

By the time I had the option to do more sidequests or confront Shinra I just headed straight to Shinra HQ. I was just fucking bored by that point. Little did I know I still had another tedious 5 hour boss rush to endure.

Reno is a big mouthed pussy that gets his ass handed to him every time and still has the guts to brag.

Rude is an hypocrite that wants to believe he is a good guy but at the critical time he doesn't have what it takes to do the right thing.

Tseng is a manipulative piece of shit that acts all mighty but is just a pawn for the Pres band Rufus.

And God they are awful at their jobs, the only guy they are able to catch is Corneo and Clouds party does all the heavy lifting.

Bruh I expected a 1:1 true remake and they surprised me with a sequel instead, not even mad. A remake would end by just being a remake since you already know the story, this is fresh and exciting and no one knows where this shit is going to end

Ever since Advent Children they've tried to make the Turks "sort of" good guys and it just doesn't work at all. It makes no fucking sense and their actions and feeling towards their actions are inconsistent as hell. Even Rufus isn't truly a villain now, and yet he is, but not really, but he is, but only sort of. Shinra has no bite left whatsoever, but who cares because now Sephiroth can time travel and create alternate dimensions and whatever the fuck he wants

If it doesn't win GOTY I'll be mad. But the real gems usually get SHAFTED.

No. The environmental textures were dogshit (absolutely no excuse for this in a linear AAA games released in 2020), the side quests were bland and unoriginal, and the padding throughout the game was insultingly obvious. It was NOT just the story that was criticized. You dingus.

I imagine all of Zig Forums shitting on me but playing a Jrpg on easy should me mandatory, all you are going to miss is wasting your time grinding and rng bullshit, i never regretted it at any point during my life
And IF the game is old enough not to have difficulty options, then i use an exp booster, usually x5 or x10, fuck that noise.
Sure, but then don't write "remake" on the fucking cover, "Re:make" or any silly shit like that would have been better if contextualized within the game.
