The worst thing to happen to shooters ever since the loss of dedicated servers.
The worst thing to happen to shooters ever since the loss of dedicated servers
this and ragdolls instead of gore
you don't like being put against and with people around your skill level?
imagine being the cringelord that made this post
couldn't you just play in unranked ?
Look you can call me bait or you can explain what the hell is wrong with the idea cause I don't understand, the opposite of NOT having skill based matchmaking just seems like a recipe for disaster to me
For some reason it's good in Halo and CS but cod fans go fucking ballistic. I think it's because Halo and CS reward good gameplay whereas COD is a dopamine release simulator with kill streaks, so people who are in the top 20% of players are used to winning by absurd margins because once they get that single killstreak it leads into a feedback loop and in the end they've won by 50 kills or more. That was taken from them.
Depends entirely on the kind of shooter. For arena shooters it's perfectly fine, the option to have a server is nice though.
>noooo i dont want to be outed as a scruuuuubbbb
while i agree that dedicated servers should've stayed, matchmaking is not bad in and of itself. what is bad is using it for casual modes, or lacking any kind of casual modes at all.
esports
seeing cod esports is hilarious, when they get up and shit talk their opponents. Did not expect that. They're the football players of esports kek
not him, but sometimes you just want to play casually or whatever and not have to give 100% to it all the time or otherwise you'll get banned for deliberately underperforming
how did it all go so wrong
SBMM should only be enabled in ranked modes. When you enable it in casual matches you just get horrible games where you can't relax or experiment because everyone else is trying as hard as they possibly can like they have something to prove in a mode with no stakes.
Just look at what happened to Apex legends after they enabled SBMM. Quality of matches just went down the toilet because if you're even slighty above average in skill level the game matches you with top 500 ranked players and you get obliterated. Then look at Destiny 2. They switched back to Connection based MM and the quality of games vastly improved.
Matchmaking is not the problem. Report system is. When will you faggots finally realize that?
>good in CS
>t. never touched 1.6, let alone source
Kinda.
But it leads to a huge portion of the community staying, and then plateauing with stagnation.
And if there is a ranked mode, NO FUN leaks over to unranked.
yeah I have this problem in Apex
outside of people flaming me on the mic it is objectively easier for me to play ranked mode up until a certain point than it is for me to play an unranked match
The people who hate it are content creators mad they can’t style on folks on the net.
Why is Zig Forums always looking for excuses to justify being bad at games?
God I miss dedicated servers and 64 player knife only Counter-strike.
except the truth is that the dedicated server era completely fucked over normal players. There is a reason skill based matchmaking resulted in the most popular games across the board from League of Legends to DotA 2 to CSGO to everything else.
>you don't like being put against and with people around your skill level?
As someone that has designed systems like this, that's not how they work.
They're designed around player retention, not balance.
Give us one reason how dedicated fucked over anyone.
I grew up playing source and the ranking system in CSGO is good.
How SBMM is supposed to work:
>low skill player enters match
>gets paired with other low skill players with a similar skill level
>fun to be had
How SBMM actually works:
>high skill players enter a match
>matchmaking fills out each team with a few good players and the rest with dogshit players
>everyone gets mad at each other, no fun to be had, etc
I play vidya to relax and have fun. This doesn't mean I'm a shitter but I can't be bothered to play every match as if it was a fucking olympic competition. These faggots I see in Modern Warfare 2019 who have .1 second instant perfect aim who slide and go 100mph with their golden MP5s... It gets tiring really fast especially because it's not even ranked mode as such - I don't see a leaderboard anywhere, I don't see my current ranking. I don't know what I'm competing for.
The weird shit is that even as much people complain about it online and even the so called e-celeb faggots complain about SBMM publicly, Activision etc haven't said or changed anything.
Playing MW2019 sucks the life out of my soul.
t. Noob killer
Back in my days we shamed fuckers like you, when they started to dominate dedicated server.
If you want to largely avoid SBMM in MW, play Ground War. That and Plunder are literally all I play in the stupid fucking game because it's all I can stand to. SBMM completely ruined the basic 5v5 modes (you know, which COD is known for?).
I remember thinking that PC will never lose dedicated and hosted servers and matchmaking was for console peasants, how wrong I was.
How?
How SBMM actually works:
>high skill players enter a match
>matchmaking fills out each team with a few good players and the rest with dogshit players
>everyone gets mad at each other, shit players report good players for being correct
>Good players are banned from the game
>Shit players fill the matchmaking
Report system is the problem.
Used to be an online shooter junkie, but nowadays, I barely play online.
So many new "teambased" games that have the exact same disease that appears to have started with overwatch.
Any sense of community or identity has been stripped away since you play against a different set of complete strangers every 15 minutes.
Because of this, you might as well play against bots. Actually, playing against bots objectively gives you a BETTER experience
One of the reasons is that this dehumanizing of online multiplayer makes the "community" more toxic than ever before? Why on earth should I be nice to these anonymous names? Back in the old days days, being a dick online meant losing friends or not becoming the part of any closed community. Nowaday it means risking bans from a game you don't even really care about.
It's also the reason current ban systems and speech regulations are so retarded. Community servers means that the players are the judge of who is being an asshole, so genuine assholes get banned IMMEDIATELY (not 2 weeks later) and people just wanting banter get to keep playing.
Not to mention these games all look identical: 4v4/6v6 "competitive matchbased arenas with quirky looking heroes. All doing everything they can to avoid actually building player communities, opting to keep it clinically as possible.
I blame all the arsewipes still clinging to overwatch.
This. Also people who just want to steam roll shit players to feel good. I don't see the point in playing an online competitive game if that is what you are looking for.
Skill based matchmaking is great. Keeps me on my toes, even as I gradually get better.
Your dedicated servers were shit then. The ones I played the good players would switch teams instantly if they were imbalanced.
>Plunder
I don't play the Warzone gamemodes at all because I hate Warzone but Plunder is even worse
that gamemode is so abnormally boring unless you just want to fuck around
people just chilling on rooftops a million miles away sniping the whole time and then there doesn't feel like there's any tension because you have infinite lives and the map is so big so sometimes you struggle to find action
no more servers building community, zoomers so butthurt and sensitive cant handle banter and report systems flagging and censoring language its fucking tragic out here
>4+2+2+2+2 = 12
>1+1+1+1+8 = 12
>They both equal 12, seems fair to me! Thank you based matchmaking!
It'd work if they put effort into it but they don't.
Skill based match making only works for fighting games and RTS, wherein all matches are 1v1.
The moment you apply this shit to multiplayer based games is the moment the system just fails. You can play your ass off and you'll lose just as much MMR as the retarded faggot on your team you fed.
It's why I gave up on online gaming.
Its more about the fact there is a limited amount of server slots.
A community will cap at a 1-3 thousand slots, and be unable to grow.
What is even stranger is that these threads discuss FPS online servers, when Warcraft III had a "decent community" until about 2016 and the numbers dwindled below sustainable levels.
Warcraft III lack many of the problems with how FPS servers are utilized, even if it means segregating a huge portion away into queued matchmaking to grind for ELO.
It's like communism sounds good on paper but in practice it never works. Your just saying that to convince yourself because nobody else believes that tripe you're trying to sell.
Yup, and for any other online multiplayer game really. Besides maybe 1v1 games. Started playing a kart racer recently that has dedicated servers, was the first time in years I had fun in a online multiplayer game
And I even forgot to mention just how retarded this "skillbased" system even is.
I played Overwatch for about 3 months. What happened in the last weeks is why I never touched it again:
>be a casual overwatch player, having fun in matches
>high skilled friends invite me for playing matches together 2 evenings in a row
>win all matches, are exctatic, win rate rises to 62%
>play solo again
>lose 20 matches in a row, until my winrate is EXACTLY 50%. Then suddenly get matched against a group of retards and easily win.
I mean there's a few areas where there's basically constant action but if it's not your thing then I get it. I've just found that besides GW it's the only mode I can stand playing since I hate Battle Royales as well.
>play Rumble in Rocket League
>it's a fun silly game mode to relax with
>suddenly Rumble becomes ranked
>it gets filled with salty sweats who are unironically training for Rumble tournaments
>they get mad at everything and start trying to forfeit after two goals
>Rumble is now totally anti-fun
Meanwhile I'm just trying to goof around because the imaginary rank couldn't mean less to me. And now I don't play Rocket League anymore. Remove ranks, and people wouldn't believe that they're actually achieving something. Rocket League always had matchmaking, but once people started getting ranks, they started to be awful human beings
The reason why SBMM is trash in some games these days is because the developers are insanely scared of having their game seem dead with longer queue times(even if it's just 2-3 minutes).
The perfect world would have casual play(no SBMM) + ranked play(with SBMM), but from a developer standpoint of view that splits up the playerbase into 50/50.
>The moment you apply this shit to multiplayer based games is the moment the system just fails
The system fails because report system creates a dysfunctional environment.
Lol, same shit happened to me only through solo queue.
>be in masters previous season
>new season starts
>get to grandmaster within a week, constantly winning
>lose ONE (1) game
>get nothing but games with griefers and shitters until I de-rank all the way back into diamond
>mfw the entire time
So glad I dropped that fucking dogshit after they added le punch nigger
But it totally works in tons of games. Games that I have played without it are just pointless. I get to a point where I will have matches and I just destroy everyone and move on to the next one. Sounds great, but its really tiring. I don't want to play againts a bunch of 10 year old trash players who don't even know the mechanics of the game. It isn't fun, and it shouldn't be fun. The whole point of competition is just that. If there is no competition why bother even showing up. Go play something co op or single player.
No one wants to play against impossible enemy. You just want to kill noobs who can't fight back, admit it already. I'm currently playing game with sbmm and every game is interesting and +- is balanced, i see absolutely zero problems with it. It's way easier than ranked, but still provide some challenge.
Just take out the ranked play. THAT's what attracts all the "no fun allowed, follow the meta or be kicked" tryhards.
