If you like well written characters, immersive graphics and music and playing as a character that has his own personality then its pretty amazing. Ive played it 4 times now over 5 years and im likely to go back again in another year.

The downside is that the combat is very 2 dimensional and it can be dragged down by its limited movement options, but the second is a rather minor complaint. The fights are carried more through the tension and build up of the "hunt" and the actual visuals. Personally its one of my favourite games ever.

Yes. If on PC I recommend the "no levels" mod. Takes care of a lot of the issues from the retarded open world design, fixing loot and quest rewards. I would recommend that even for a first time player. Helps increase non-linearity as well.

Instead of making him look even goofier, they progressively made him far more handsome. This, in a way, makes sense because Geralt is supposed to have woman throwing themselves at his feet despite being the strong silent type. In the first game looks like a turbo Pole with white hair, then they made him into a square chinned chad in 2 and then an even bigger square chinned chad in 3. There has to be a word for this.

Geralt, especially in 2 and 3, is a fucking Chad. He barely has pale skin when he is distinctively paler than even other Witchers in the books (Lambert and Eskel look like fucking normal people with cat eyes too). You are given a ton of power especially in 3, there is barely any actual hatred of your kind and if there is its only dialogue deep.

An Incel insert would be more similar to the edgy protags in light novels, Arifureta would be an easy example. The main character is "normal looking" but is bullied, yet hes actually witty but loves manga. Is abandoned and grows strong and takes slaves and marries damsels in distress. Word Master is similar as well, theres always so much retarded preachy bullshit coming out of the protags mouths. Geralt is a far cry from that.

He was an awful choice for that role honestly. It's weird, I really like the guy but I can't think of a single good thing he's been in off the top of my head.

I don't think it's even debatable that it has the greatest writing and lore of any RPG to date. The gameplay is okay but not really very interesting. Then again I feel like most RPGs have uninteresting gameplay.

It's just as far as character, morality, and lore go, as well as just how big and expansive of a game Witcher 3 is, I think it's easily the greatest RPG ever created and I'm not sure what other games are even close to it in contention. If it had better gameplay, it'd probably be the best game of all time.

Yeah, that's part of it, but there definitely was a clear intent to make Geralt look like a Slav in 1 because it's Polish. I feel that they moved away from this intentionally in 2 because they were trying to go for more massmarket appeal. Most games have rugged, good looking protags. Geralt in 1 is an outlier in that he's pretty fugly.

One of the main reasons why I like Geralt as a protag is because he's concise and usually just tells people he doesn't like to fuck off. He very rarely ever goes into long tirades outside of when he's explaining something or recounting an event that's happened off-screen and some exposition is needed. Him telling someone to fuck off has always gotten a laugh out of me.

Geralt acts tough and talks tough because half of his craft is intimidation. He has to look alien so villagers understand the matter needs to be left to him, and he needs to be paid actual wages for it. However he is very loyal to his friends and has a decent sense of humour. No shit when hes in "work mode" hes a lot more serious but even in early quests like the "find the pan" quest he shows a bit of banter. Calling Triss a yandere is hilarious, calling Yen a tsundere is even more hilarious and shows you probably havent even played the games in years, and especially havent read the books. Ciri being a mcguffin is a central part of her conflict in 3. She despises being forced into being this shitty "hope for the world" role but her personality wont allow her to abandon it and live how she wants. Avallach, and the Emperor if you let her visit him, essentially groom her into feeling guilty about not doing everything they want her to because of her power. if you had a friend who could teleport and go back in time and shit wouldnt you attempt to use him all the time?

It's one of my favourite games of all time along with Planescape: Torment.

It manages to evoke such a wonderful feeling of time and place and atmosphere with the music, ambience, graphics, and storytelling. I sometimes find myself fondly thinking about travelling through Toussiant as though it had been an actual vacation in my life. Travelling through the crowded streets of Novigrad or the winding paths of Velen or crossing the sunbaked hills of Touisssant, each moment is captured perfectly.

The combat isn't extremely complex but it feels kinetic and I actually enjoyed fighting groups of bandits 100+ hours into the game simply because of how good the combat feels. Like another poster said, the combat is enjoyable partly because of its visual presentation.

The Witcher 1 is pure Eurojank. It's so fucking janky, but if you can put up with that it's fine. The Witcher 2 is deeper than The Witcher 1 and 3 in terms of mechanics, but I prefer the story of 1 and 3. 2's ending comes outta nowhere. Feels like they genuinely ran out of money, which sorta makes sense since it was made on a shoestring budget.

It's very good, worst part is the combat but even then it's about serviceable
