Virtually every story-focused fantasy-ish JRPG with playable female characters I played had to have some kind of runaway tomboy princess, some warrior woman trying to prove herself to men, and so on. It's such an old trope that was basically borderline expected, that it boggles my mind why we have faggots saying it's a recent development.

Number 2 there's a difference between more general statements about social issues and things being explicitly political in the contemporary sense.

There are moderate conservatives who want to live in a nice neighborhood, have low business taxes, and not have to stand near people with funny colored skin or neon colored hair. There are religious conservatives that live their life by a literal interpretation of the bible (except when it's inconvenient. it gets more inconvenient the higher up the religious hierarchy you are.) In first place, even as a kid I would have thought "the men of this tribe must be a bunch of pussys". However, I would not think it had anything to do with people in real life because it's a fantasy world thing.
Second, in these times damsel in distress, hot girls, cool male characters were the norm and nobody from the gaming world had a problem with it. Nobody was asking for homossexual characters, nobody cared whether or not a female character was strong as long as she looked pretty, nobody complained about fanservice.
