People bitch about Metroid and F-Zero getting fucked over by Nintendo, but I gotta say, Star Fox is probably the series with the most wasted potential. It has about as much potential lore as both Metroid and F-Zero combined, but the quality of games ranges wildly, it's like Sonic-lite. Not to mention most of the stories are bland as fuck.
At least Metroid and F-Zero had some truly fantastic games on their belts, Starfox has like 64, and that's it.
If Nintendo actually tried hard enough, Star Fox could easily become a massive series, but instead they just want to rehash 64 with some dumb gimmick added onto it.

I think Andross is just fine. He's that kind of Saturday morning cartoon villain that people get nostalgic over because he was hardcore for a kids' show. It's a sci-fi setting about space battles, a mad scientist and his insane superweapons Star Fox to fight against is perfect, he's Dr. Wily but taken completely seriously.
But if you really need a lesser villain who isn't Andross, and who isn't Star Wolf, then... I got nothing.
