Over Ten years ago they made console so exspensive that it almost sunk whole comppany. If not for their financial sector in japan, Sony would be dead. Sony is dumb as brick.

i doubt it. that pissed people off because no one owned an xbox and didn't want it. most console players are already on playstation. if playstation were in the weaker position it would be very bad, but the winner can afford to get away with a lot more than the loser.

xbox is attempting to expand the market and make consoles useless. In a sense MS could keep launching hardware as xbox base in the future while everything is streaming (if its good enough for a sizable market).

MS generally has two problems launching too early (ms windows tablet, drm consoles) or launching too late (zune/ect..). Keeping xcloud as an option that grows over time is good as long as countries w great internet bandwidth reflect a good gaming experience.

Also the fuck up known as the xbox one still sold 50 million, w 10 mill gamepass subs. Early adopters w always buy day 1 but it is providing content to get casuals to jump in after day 1. Think all the horrible treads of every launch being shit until the following year holiday or the next for actual next gen versions of staple franchises.

It's more so about being in the position to ruin the xbox brand I think. The xbox always had been the direct competitor to the playstation, xbox has had huge loses these past two consoles generations. With the xbox 360 it was the RROD fiasco, and then the xbox one never really took off. Sony knows that xbox brand can die and it would lead to them not having a direct competitor. They would be stupid if they didn't capitalize on that.

I don't even care at this point. Next gen will probably be even worse than this generation. AAA games take too long to make now and are so dumbed down that they're not even engaging anymore. Indies and the occasional Nintendie game are the only ones worth playing now, and you don't need power for those.

MS has an interest in xbox existing for game development because of directx. it's always been that way. the more devs who use directx the more MS benefits. no matter what happens there will always be an xbox console for that reason but if they see the xbox potentially losing major marketshare they'll definitely pay up when they need to. at this rate it's just a matter of time. i expect in 3-4 years the industry will be completely divided with these moneyhat wars and i expect MS to have the bigger franchises by then.

Feels like Sony is trying to literally buy time since Xbox is ahead of them on the streaming service thing. Consoles are not the future, but Sony has stumbled greatly out of the gate on their streaming service. This new gen is already starting at companies with >50% digital sales, even Nintendo’s revenue this quarter was mostly digital. The gen after will be one with streaming a pivotal part of the market.
